Looks to me like LIJ 19 with a white screwcap on the nine.

LIJ 19 is a citroen saxo!

However it occurs to me that numbers "up north" are transferable, and the car may have been bought for the number and is currently unregistered or on another number, just not swapped the plates.

Indeed it is. Reg transfer job. That doesn't make it unregistered, it should revert to it's original reg whatever that was.

Usually they will issue a new age-related non-transferable number , I suspect that is the original number.

Friend of mine has that , plate is transfered alright ,nothing dodgey about it the plates just never removed from it

Just a little dodgy not mentioning that in the ad...long way to go to discover you don't get the plate with it.Early NI registration numbers are quite sought after up there.

Dodgey - no , lazy yes I suppose but its no different than a project advertised without a no plate fitted ,, surely anyone interested wouldnt just head off to buy it without ringing and checking a few things with seller 1st ?? And as you noticed the reg then surely that would be asked about too? So its not a bit dodgey tbh

Well I picked it up off a UK site who were all convinced the plate read LIJ 1 S and thus a desirable UK number if it were possible to have an "I" in it..... I doubt too many people would be interested in the car without the number, although it's cheap enough to break for spares I guess.

Nor would anyone be interested in it with the reg LIJ 1 S as it doesnt exist?! Lol

Well they should all get to SpecSavers as it's quite clearly a 9 with a white screw cap... :pac:

Wouldn't exactly call it dodgy, some people get more caught up with plates than others.
I had a s1 landrover and honestly can't remember if it were on an original Irish plate or not and when I went to buy the lancia I didn't he the number until after I'd payed for it.

differnet mindset in the UK though over reg numbers.

I'd have a different view of it now alright but all I'm saying is not everyone has the same view on it and to call it dodgy is a little unfair. Perhaps the vendor could be unaware the plate has been transferred?

Just a little dodgy is what I said.

It's well dodgy sticking a different coloured screw cap to make a digit look like something else :)

fairly common thing to do...some of the altered plates you see in the UK are mind blowing....how they get away with it I don't know!

Yeah I've seen that done all over the place, even on newer cars. You have to be right up close to tell what the actual number is.
