Thinking of buying a round baler and am wondering what to look out for and what make would you recommend . I wouldnt have the money to buy a McHale, which seem to be the best, prob spend up to 8k.

Im not a baler man but I'd be lookin at the welger, they were one of the first from the wee rp12 some still workin away, they are still leaders and have stood the test of time and are still a class product. Something like a rp220 with a wide pick up reel might suit you

a krone roundpack 1250 could be got at that money and a very simple baler and makes as good a bale as all the others , net does give bother on it if settings are not set correct , stay away from any class 250 254 models as they are soft the older claas 46 were a better baler in my mine

At a sub 8k budget you`d be lucky to get a JD 578 baler, the JD 575 is an Older version but basically the same baler. I wouldnt be over eager for these balers, they are soft compaired to the Welgers, Claas and Mckale balers.
Had a 575 before, it was soft, wore out the chain and sprockets and got shook very easily
, panel were loose and rattled and the electrics never were 100%.

What about a tidy class 250. Think they go for around 6k mark

depends what your looking to bale really, personally having driven class and welger it would be welger, certainly wouldnt be going class to do silage with, just dont think they are as heavy as the welger or mchale, but a grand baler for hay and straw. never been around a mchale working so couldnt really comment, but i also doubt youd get a mchale at 8k yet unless worn out

What are you spending annually to justify spending 8k on a baler? Remember repairs and diesel isn't free either.

Have 2 cuts of 62 acres ,so 124 acres. If I get aprox 8 (probably more) bales to the acre at 4 euro to the bale and subtract expenses that would be over 3k on baling .
I will be selling a lot of bales this year so I would like to make hay,but I will be making silage for myself also.If I dont find a good baler in the next few weeks I will probably rent out some of the meadow .

8k might get you a good RP220 Profi. Baler of choice in and around that budget, drop floor, 23 knives, actual locked door, output to match today's ones.

That's it exactly but look further down and you'll see a class 250 for 6000. Loads of balers around your price range

Get someone with experience as they can be a minefield. Each main chain can be a grand apiece

That's the prob. My krone needs new chamber chains. The other chains are perfect but there only small ones

Area under the rotor drops down to allow blockages through. No need to leave the cab.

Just the two. wrap in field and draw all night before the crows get up in the morn. McHale wrapper makes quick work of all the bales

Got her in Newry off a contractor , he has it since new in 2000 and has bought a new one again . Every machine he has is mint and well serviced and he even polishes his tractors. I went to look at one locally and it was pure scrap
