I went to New York and the states for the first time last November and fell in love with the city. since i came back all i have wanted to do was go again and I am thinking of going back again in august for a week. My friend thinks this is a bit too much since I was there less than a year ago what do you think? I dont drink or go out that much and still live at home which is why I can afford a second trip

It is entirely up to yourself. However, there are many nice places to visit in Europe which would be less expensive to visit than NYC, so you might also visit these.

What attracts you to the place? It's pretty much somewhere you could take in all the tourist sites and sounds in 2 or 3 days. If it was me I would go Boston or West Coast instead.

Oh God no it isn't. There's so much to see in New York, way more than just the predictable top sites.I've probably spent about a month in the city altogether and keep finding new gems. OP if you want to go back go back, I've done it succesive years and have loved it every time.

It will be extremely hot and humid in august op.
The end of stop September is the perfect time to go in my opinion.
Also no twice in a year is not too much. There is never enough of New York.

It really depends on what you feel like. I've been to New York on Holidays 3 times in 6 months once and never ran out of stuff to do, however, I would consider exploring somewhere new.

As other have said OP, if you find NYC irresistible, then go for it.

I'd also advise you avoid August though, as the place is swamp-hot and it just drains the life outta you getting from A to B.

Go for it, enjoy YOUR life and don't listen to sour grapes from others who can't or won't go.

That's exactly how i felt after my first NY trip!
I've been 3 times in the past 4 years and I'll go again. I've been in Spring, Summer and Winter now, and would love to see it in the Fall.
I get what others are saying about there being other places to see, but i think once you really like somewhere why not keep exploring it and getting to know it?!
As for your friend, it's not her decision! Do what makes you happy, enjoy it, might bump into you in Central Park some day :)

Go for it OP. New York is one of the worlds great cities. You could go there for a holiday every year for the rest of your life and, you will still find new things to see and do there. It has an incredible energy and buzz to it, that few cities have. It never gets old.

I wouldn't go in August though. Odds are, the heat and humidity will be unbearable.

I would also like to stress how oppressive the heat and humidity can be in the summer. I went during September and another time in October and the weather was perfect.

Go for it. Life is for living.

As others have said I would think about travelling in September or October.

My girlfriend is from New York,I would move in a heartbeat but am stuck here with work commitment.
Its an amazing city and I have been 4 times in one year,so much to see,the fall is a stunning time to visit.
Go for it,you decide what to do not someone else.

Go for it OP! If you lived it that much then there's nothing wrong with going back so soon. You will likely see a totally different side to the city in August than you did in November. Central Park is an amazing place to be in the summer.

I would disagree about it being unbearably hot in August, we were there for ten nights at the end of August 2010 and the weather was amazing. Lovely and warm but not overbearingly hot and not humid at all. Also the hotels are cheaper in August than they are in Sept/Oct. the only time we struggled in the heat was on the subway, but we didn't actually use the subway that much, we pretty much walked everywhere.

You could maybe look into doing some day trips if you're there for a week, maybe get a chance to get to the beach if you did find the city too hot.

Il echo what everyone said...Go for it....BEST city in the world for me. Fell in love with it the first time I visited back in 2001 and have been back 3 times since (latest was 2 weeks ago). The best thing about NY is the atmosphere...street noise, people etc
