Hi there, is there anyone in the limerick region that u would recommend installing a satellite? I don't know if I would need 2 satellites as I wish to get the free to air channels and I would also like to get Slovakian tv channels? Is thes possible and can anyone recommend anyone who can do it?

Satellites are installed 23,000 miles above the equator and I don't think anyone in Limerick does that.

What free to air channels do you want, there are thousands out there broadcast from many satellites?

I'm assuming you mean a satellite dish rather than a satellite? I'll try not to be too pedantic. :D

With regards to Slovakian television, there are a few Slovak TV channels that are free-to-air on the Astra 3B satellite at 23.5 East, as well as some Czech ones as well (if they're of any interest to yourself, AFAIK the Czech and Slovak languages are somewhat mutually understood but I'm no expert on that). If you're looking for the RTVS channels, Markiza, Joj etc. then you'll need a Skylink card. That's something you may have to source yourself. There are Slovak TV transmissions on other satellites on Pay-TV packages, but they require larger dishes than Astra 3B for stable reception in Limerick.

As for free-to-air stations, this can mean any channel that is not broadcast with an encrypted signal. I'm going to assume you mean the UK main terrestrial channels (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc.) broadcasts from the Astra 2 satellites at 28.2 East.

If you want to get them and also the Slovak stations on Astra 3B, the two satellite positions are quite close together. From my own experience I'd say one 80-90cm dish with two LNBs with a bracket to hold both of them and a cheap 2/1 or 4/1 Diseqc switch should do the trick. You'd need to make sure your receiver is also capable of communicating with a Diseqc switch - almost all free-to-air receivers are, no "Sky" receivers can and almost all Freesat receivers can't either.
