Saorview aerial on new build

Bought a new house and two new TVs that are saorview enabled but as we have no aerial at all we can't pick up the saorview signal. Can anyone tell me what we need to get and where can we get it for this to work? We've been getting conflicting views on whether we need an indoor or outdoor aerial. We have upc boxes but they are working out too expensive in the long run. How much would the saorview aerial and installation generally cost?

Saorview is designed to work with an outdoor aerial, being able to get an indoor signal is a bonus for some people near the transmitter. An attic aerial may be a good compromise. It all depends on where you are and where your transmitter is.

    Saorview info here - http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/

Only the person installing the aerial will be able to tell you which setup is best suited for your location.

As regards cost, ring around locally and get a quote.

If by indoor aerial you mean something like a set-top aerial that is in the same room as your TV and not an aerial in the attic space, then if you can pony up a few Euros (around the €5 mark at the most) you could try a simple UHF indoor aerial like the one pictured below. Try to look for one that looks like a mini outdoor TV aerial, not one that is just a loop or the "rabbit ears" of the past and don't really bother with any that has a built-in amp. You'll more than likely find these in discount or €2 stores than in the main chains like Argos these days where they are mostly overpriced gimmicks. Or you could try eBay or Amazon.

If you find that this type of aerial works for both your TVs over an extended period of time (at least several weeks, not just a couple of hours), then this indoor aerial will probably be adequate in the long run. However if one or both TVs get regular picture break-up, glitching, periods of no-signal etc. then you'll need something better, at the very least an attic install. That then takes you on from what The Cush has said in his post previous to this.
