I'm holding out for the Gresham.

I imagine its to piss off the management. A service charge of 38k a year is ridiculous.

No need for the big bold link there, op :P Makes you come off like you have your big wooden spoon out ready to stir the pot :pac:

But honestly... who cares. Sounds like a marketing ploy to me or something. Get the hotels name out there. But when it comes down to a person actually trying to use rent allowance... I expect alot to be told no for whatever [insert reason] why.

    Close enough.

BUT what if it is real and Jacinta actually moves in?

What's the catch ? I smell something fishy with this.

according to Mr O’Connor, the hotel management has the right to vet any of his tenants before deciding if they could stay on the premises

    Management saw this coming ;)

An Irish version of jeremy kyle ireland will be needed and created? :pac:

But honestly, who gives a fuck?
Like, do you have something invested in this hotel? do you visit there regularly? ... Like if you turned around and said you worked there or something. Like yeah, i'd get it. You are involved. But is that the case?

So you would have no issue with your taxes going to pay for people, most of whom don't work, living in 5 star hotels? Do you live in higher standard accommodation? This is not exactly what is meant by affordable housing.

Pity the rent allowance limit is €575 or €680 (dunno if Enniskerry counts as 'Bray Area') a month for a couple, so not enough. Unless he wants to jam a family of five in to it.

Of course, those on rent allowance are not supposed to supplement the rent allowance with other funds, so this would require a rent allowance for the full value of the apartment. Not likely.

Could we send all the junkies and whatsnot from the city to here?

Can I be totally honest with you, Kerm.
Taxes are a load of bollocks. Imagine if we could flip a switch. That tomorrow we have no one on the social welfare and it's celtic tiger all over again. Do you honestly think taxes would go down? They wouldn't.

People on the dole aren't the problem. If you want to get down to the nitty gritty it's the law and government thats the problem. If I want to buy a banana I pay tax. If I want to get a car I pay tax. If I want a tv I pay tax. Etc.

But don't be confused by the hotel. This is a marketing ploy. They aint going to take Jacinta with 12 kids. The fuck they are. But this move creates debate. Such as what we are having now. It's marketing.

With all the big blue font in the OP, I thought something important was happening.

    Hotel accepts rent allowance.

    Wow.

It's the very opposite of marketing as the hotel are in a dispute and having the issue getting reported. It's bad publicity

The hotel didn't advertise the suite, the owner did.

Every hear of the developer who was sick of objections so he threatens to build a halting site if the locals wont stop objecting? This isn't the same but it sort of is, the owner is threatening the hotel here

Correction. One of country's most luxurious hotels. This is not a hotel for commoners.

From the article it seems pretty clear that the investor, O'Connor, moved into the suite and management got a High Court order against him because he's not allowed to live there (I don't care why). The net result being that if he can't use it, he's hoping that someone will move in and wreck the gaff or at the very least, management will have bother vetting applicants.

It's speculators fighting over a hotel room while Nama had debts of at least €127 million associated with the hotel. Nama. That's you and me. And the whole place was sold to the current speculators for around €4 million. A plague on both their hotel suites.

    Most definitely not.

I stayed in it myself after all.

There isn't a hope in hell of them letting a room to someone on a housing list on a long term basis.

Hard to believe The Irish Times stooped for this one.

More of a Daily Mail one really.

Maybe wear a suit when you look for accommodation here re rent allowance acceptance. Don't waste time, go forward ye dolers, in style.

You couldn't blame a commoner if they were lucky enough to be given a suite there all the same. The blame would be elsewhere.

As has been pointed out rent is higher than the maximum allowed for Rent Allowence unless they try to ram a family in there, which is unlikely.
