    An infinite amount of cuts.

Only 2 strokes out the opposite way

I thought this was about shots where you cut across the ball!

So did I. Was expecting a discussion on the differential between club face and club path :D

I got cut 5 shots for winning a non-qualifying event. Took me 3 or 4 years to
    play to the lowered handicap.

I'd imagine there's no limit really but I'd nearly change clubs if it was happening often. source:http://www.handicapmaster.org/handicaps/Unified_Handicapping_System_Page3.php

Not the best source ever I'd say!

You'd nearly be better off giving up the game if that's the case, this may come as a surprise to you but the sole purpose of amateur golf is to lower your handicap, not just play to it.
For the vast majority of people who play the game that holds true, but for a very tiny % all they want to do is hold their handicap so the can "play to it" and win prizes, these people are commonly referred to as bandits and give the game a bad reputation and TBH the game would be better off without them.
    End rant.

Don't know how you were cut for a non-qualifying event?? Non-Qualifying means you can't be cut. i.e. like winter competitions don't count

In an ideal world/club you will be cut consistently and constantly on general play as long as your handicap is out of sync with your ability and you should welcome and celebrate each cut as an endorsement and reward for your good golf.

You can be cut on general play for non-qualifying events.

I have no problem with general play cuts within reason. It should be used more in my club that's for sure. I'm all about getting my handicap down.

I guess it depends on each situation and whether it could be deemed as reasonable.
