Back to Education Allowance

Hi, i have been on job seekers allowance for two years before taking up a Tus programme in January 2014. I have just been accepted onto a fetac college course in September 2014, I'm aged 28. Not familiar with the Back to Education Allowance so would greatly appreciate some help on this.
When should i apply for it, straight away or when i start back in September?

Where do i send the application (social welfare)?

How much approximately can i expect to get?

How often is the payment? What happens when the summer kicks in and there is no college?

Any other general tips or advice to help me with the application?

Hi, I think you can apply now but the decision making is done around late July. I had to wait to start college and get a form signed and stamped saying I had registered for the course. After that I started getting payment the following week. I received mine every Tuesday, straight into my bank account but your day could be different. I'm not sure exactly how they work out the payment amount but I'm sure you could ask.

For the summer you go back to JA and signing on, and your BTEA payment continues when you go back to college.

    Hope this helps :)
