Its an OK price but you may find places willing to sell you a gas BBQ with a tank for less than the cost of that + tank (67.99 for a filled tank if you've none to swap in Woodies; cheaper is probably available but not much) so I'd check local DIY and garden stores first.

Its also not massive - I'd always prefer a 3 burner or bigger if you're going to be doing 4 or more portions.

Bought it last year and got to use it twice last summer.

Was perfect for us and is ready to come out of the shed for this year soon hopefully.

Bought a similar looking model a few years ago in Aldi.

Had some friends over for a PS3 night and BBQ... It caught fire first time use!

    Could not find the receipt.

Wheeled it back to Aldi. In full view of everyone at the checkouts.

Didnt have to say a word, manager refunded me straight away.

I think there was a recall on the model I got.

I will never buy a cheap Gas BBQ again...

I've got this model from last summer and we've used it numerous times, it's great! Just clean it off each time after use and it'll be perfect. We'd fit about 8 burgers and maybe 15 sausages on at a time!

Landmann are good quality. I have a Landmann BBQ (not that model) for over 10 years.

Seen a big one in B@Q for the same money on an offer in Naas.

Personally, for me, a gas BBQ it just an outdoor cooker.

A BBQ has lumpwood charcoal and lots of lovely smoke.

Just to finish, I picked this up at the weekend.

Assembly was a little fiddly due to my girlfriend jumping straight into assembling instead of reading the instructions - after 2 false starts, I took control and it went together pretty handily for the most part.

€65 or so for a 11kg cylinder of propane - no smaller cylinders in stock, but such is life.

Tested it out yesterday and the food was delicious. BBQ is easy to use, and while not massive is big enough to feed four of us.

I also picked up the 3 piece BBQ tool set (tongs, fork and spatula) for €4.99 in Aldi and it's well worth picking up.

Recommended, and there seems to be no shortage of them yet.

Why would anyone want a gas bbq? sure ye may as well use your cooker, not the same taste as a charcoal one at all..

For the atmosphere of cooking outdoors, and quite frankly, I'm more than happy with the taste of the food from the gas BBQ.

Use mine 3-4 times a week

Clean up is a doddle easier than going at the cooker
Gets the kids involved, chopping and skewering different veggies or marinating a bit of chicken in a seal lock bag

Not essential life skills but makes cooking a little more fun for everyone

As for the charcoal argument there's no real difference unless you use a hardwood to smoke the food while using charcoal for flavour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭upinthesky

ok, see your point if you were using it a few times a week alright.

Its also not the same taste as using a home cooker; unless you've got one with a flame grilling system in place; something I don't think I've ever seen on a domestic cooker...

What's the difference between Butane and Propane?. Just bought one of the Aldi BBQ's and now I'm not too sure which gas to buy.... Landmann's product info says Propane...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,113 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Regulator type, for starters. It'll only have a regulator for one, probably propane.

Other than that there's temperature issues with butane at low temperatures but if you're BBQing at 3 celsius you probably have bigger issues!

Not true.....Its the flameup that gives the flavour!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭GY A1

that time to get it cleaned and ready again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 456 ✭✭brian_gall85

No difference in cooking, propane is cleaner burning apparently but we use butane with our Weber as instructed by the salesman who does similar and have never had a problem.

Butane is normally cheaper and more readily available, you will need a new regulator though as stated but it'll pay for itself after 3 cylinders or so.

I went with propane, as advised by he packaging.

the regulator on the bbq will only suit one or the other anyway, wont fit both

Thank you all for your help....I got the propane in B&Q Galway...€51 for 6kg....€21 for a refill.
We used the barbecue this evening and it was quite good....did the job so to speak. When I was cleaning it I noticed that the coating on the inside of the base had blistered from the heat and cracked....so now the bare metal is visible. For that reason I would not recommend it. Might give Aldi a ring in the morning.

Don't know...maybe that was the cause. Anyway rang Aldi customer service this morning and they were very good about it. Said I could exchange or have a credit....I opted for a credit. They then said we should disassemble the BBQ and return it in the original packaging...lol....the packaging was in the bin which had been collected yesterday. Hubby said ...not worth the hassle.....

I bought one of these recently, put it together yesterday, took 2hours, anyhow after looking at it built, I feel it's pretty flimsy, so would like to bring it back, on checking my receipt, it says exchange only, would accept credit voucher, still have box and packaging, any advice appreciated on best procedure!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,113 ✭✭✭✭L1011

If it says exchange only, it's exchange only. No statutory rights on change of mind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,249 ✭✭✭GY A1

If theres aproblem with it u should get ur money back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 226 ✭✭stoves1

Aldi have signs based near their tills, saying something like" change your mind no problem items can be returned within 60 days" and I have brought stuff back and got full refund within 60 days with receipt and packaging no problem, I just feel that to print "exchange only" on back of a receipt in this instance is sharp practise, plus based on some comments submitted here I feel the thing won't last long

We've had one of these for the last two years I think. Probably is a little flimsy but has worked great for the whole time and we would try and barbecue as often as possible. Used to be kept covered in the garden and in the shed over winter. Now in the shed full time and still in fabulous condition

An assembled barbeque is no longer in the saleable condition that the 60 day policy offers - its for change of mind when you bring something home, not when you've put it together and presumably used it. Even if unused, it'll be going in the bin if its brought back to them as it won't be re-packable.

In reply what I am saying, even if I did not open the box, I could not return it, as exchange only written on back of receipt, Aldi should have a notice viewable over products that cannot be returned, and not printed on back of a receipt, which a customer rarely looks, for info I have not used the barbecue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,113 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Whatever is printed on the back of the receipt is printed on the back of the receipt for *everything*.

Regardless, its utterly irrelevant as the product is not returnable in a saleable condition anyway so it appears you're just scrabbling for something to gripe about.

just bring it back and say its not working.

Im fairly sure a shop assistant will not be qualified to disagree with you.
