Steam Games

Didn't know where to post this as I couldn't find the Steam forum which I assume has been deleted or moved to a top secret place.

But anyway, my PC is Window and the internet on it is insanely slow when I'm downloading (100-130kb) and it would take days to download the games I got from the Humble Bundle deal during the week. I was wondering, could I download them on my Mac and transfer the files to the PC? My Mac can download it very fast so it would be better really. Is this in anyway possible, even if the games aren't Mac compatible?

Are you using the same Internet connection for both? How is the mac faster?

FYI, the Valve and Steam forum was renamed to the more general "PC Gaming" forum :)

Unfortunately, I don't think that'll work as the Mac steam client will only allow you to download Mac compatible games.

If you can get WINE on mac, install steam on it, download the files you need to the fake C:\ drive and copy them to a usb then.

Same broadband network? Yeah. For the Mac, it's brand new, bought it last Christmas whereas the broadband stick I'm using for the PC is probably 5 years old and I rarely ever use the internet on the PC, just for gaming really. The stick is probably dying now at this stage now

Do you mean wifi ? You could try plugging directly into the router with an ethernet cable from the computer.

Would I not need a copy of Windows? I don't have any at the moment

WINE allows you to use Windows programs on linux: http://www.winehq.org/

Looks like they do support mac os x as well, it gives you a fake C:\ drive to install and run windows programs on. I think you should be able to install the windows steam client using wine, run it and download the files you need. It might just be easier to wire up your existing PC into the router though :)

Another option might be to temporarily change your download region in Steam's settings. It used to work "back in the day" at any rate.

Are you using two seperate wifi dongles for the mac and pc? If so, can you just swap them around when downloading from Steam?

No, the mac has a built in wifi adapter.
