Just a quick question as this is something I thought of the other day and curiosity is after getting the better of me.

Under the current format the team that finishes bottom of the 5 team groups gets relegated to the CR cup and the CR cup winners come up. Kerry are massive favourites ton win the CR cup. Would they go into Leinster if they do eventually win it?

What? Surely they will have to go into Munster or abandon all pretext that we still have a provincial championship.

That would mean county's from all 4 provinces in the Leinster championship.

Lord forbid we "dilute" the precious Munster championship.

and what would it help if Kerry got embarassed by the worst beating in Championship history by the likes of a Cork or Tipp team at the top of their form?

As opposed to by Dublin or Kilkenny?

I thought the team finished 5th is automatically relegated to CR while the CR winners play a play off against 4th in the group. Also think its 4 in that group next year.

I'd actually be in favour of scrapping that round robin stage. Have six teams play in 3 Leinster Prelims with the 3 winners joining the existing 5 in Leinster for a proper 4 match quarter (no byes to semis ****e) and adopt something similar to the FRC proposal with 3 prelim losers joining the existing 5 in Munster again for a proper 4 match quarter. 8 quarter losers go in Round 1 qualifier and work it from there.

Sounds like a sensible idea, which is why it would never happen.

they would enter the round robin competition where they'd have 3 games or so in the championship against Antrim, Carlow etc and then all going well face the likes of Dublin or Kilkenny.

It'd be a ramping up to championship speed rather than going straight from div 3 speed and mindset to playing a team straight out of what is a cut troath div1a campaign.

I want to see the likes of Kerry playing in Munster (/leinster proper) but chasing after a Cork or Tipp (or Clare) team for 70minutes isnt really a positve developmental move

It's not really a Leinster championship though is it?

this round robin thing should be taken completely out of Leinster as suggested above.

If teams need protecting from the better teams they should stay in Christy Ring cup. If they are going to play in the top tier they need to be prepared to play the top teams.

What we actually have is another tier in the round robin but they don't call it that because all the teams want to be in the top tier.

Also this idea of the Leinster champions going to the semi final is stupid also, there are more than enough teams to have 4 quarterfinals.

I'm almost certain this is what is happening. Which I think is fair enough. (Although, reading an article on another site this week it seems that nobody told the London manager this!)

However, on the merits of having a qualifier group at all, I'm not so sure. As mentioned above, it's just like another tier. Its purpose seems to be to keep a few teams happy by saying they are not playing in Christy Ring. A few extra teams in Christy Ring would do it no harm at all, could really make for a competitive exciting championship.

Could not agree more. Taking out the automatic SF for the provincial winners would solve a few problems, namely the 5/6 week wait for another game for the provincial winners, and having more teams for the QF's so giving a more open championship which would also take out a round of qualifiers leaving a weekend open for club games.

Think that a home QF for the provincial winners would be more of a reward than a 5/6 week wait for a semi-final where they could lose momentum.
