Sam Waley-Cohen misses the ride on Long Run at Auteuil this weekend due to him being an amateur.

    Ruby Walsh takes the ride.
    Looking forward to that!

    Article from Racing Post
RUBY WALSH will partner Long Run for the first time in Sunday's Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris at Auteuil after regular jockey Sam Waley-Cohen was forced to sit the race out owing to French rules regarding amateur riders.

Speaking to the Racing Post on Friday morning, Waley-Cohen's father Robert, who owns the two-time King Geroge winner, said: “The horse is in great form, he has got to go and run and it is just really disappointing and a shame that Sam can't be on him.

“The horse deserves the chance to go and win this race, which I think will suit him really well. Ruby is a superlative jockey and I am sure he will do a great job.”

France Galop provisionally nominated the race as the platform for the main Quinte bet. Rules which are due to be reviewed next month prevent amateur riders like Sam Waley-Cohen from participating in Quinte races.

Waley-Cohen has ridden Long Run in every one of his 20 starts since joining Nicky Henderson from Guillaume Macaire four and a half years ago.

Glad he is still running. Comments yesterday definitely seemed to indicate he wouldn't run if Sam wasnt on. Would have been a stupid decision

Definitely, obviously they've always claimed the horse was bought for Sam to ride, but even loyalty to a jockey has to have it's limits.

It would be equally interesting if he ran to his highest rating ;-)

Horse has been pulled out of races before due to Sam not being able to ride him. Looks as if his best days are behind him. Very sad to see someone run the hell out of a horse. Think its time to call it a day IMO

cruel greed , also stupid pulling a horse out due to his spoilt son not being able to ride. I really admire it when people cut their losses and call it a day with their horses regardless of losing potential prizemoney
