Just a quick query. I see a couple of young lads locally starting up farming. buying up small holdings, doing a fair bit of work on the land such as shed building and improvements etc. Ive been told that there are big grants for young farmers with green cert who are starting off farming.
Anyone any details of the grant schemes available?

Id also love to know about them
Consider myself fairly clued in and don't know of them
This reminds me a bit of 2 guys in the pub that give me bad grief about all the hand outs I'm getting
I gave up arguing with them I now agree and add I few imaginative ones in as well

YEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAA he shouts as he hops around living room slapping an imaginary horse on the arse...

I'll believe it when I see it, and when it's provisioned in an actual budget in November. Teagasc or any private adviser I've asked about either have no clue.

    FROM THE DEPT WEBSITE

    ''5) TAMS II (€395 million)

The areas identified for funding are:

    • Farm nutrient storage
    • Animal housing
    • Dairy equipment
    • Low emission spreading equipment
    • Animal Welfare and Farm Safety
    • Pig and poultry investments in energy, water meters and medicine dispensers
    • Organic Capital Investment (organic farmers only)
    • Young Farmer Capital Investment Scheme (including the above areas and dairy buildings)

It is intended that support for investments in dairy equipment, beef and sheep handling equipment, pigs and poultry, slurry on tillage farms, and low emissions spreading equipment will be prioritised initially.

A general grant aid rate of 40% will apply, with 60% available for young farmers.

A separate BioEnergy Scheme (a further €12m) will also be in place to support the production of willow and miscanthus.''

Those lads that have work done in 2014 will not be entitled to any grants as far as I know, its from 2015-2019 and there have been no real grants since the last big farm buildings grant of 70%. Young farmers will be entitled to 60% grants on all of the above if they have a minimum of the Green Cert.
