    Hey guys,

Just wondering about something. Not looking for legal advice, just wanna know if I have a leg to stand on. Sorry if this is the wrong forum, perhaps work & jobs is better.

I'm working in an office, which decided to have a pumpkin carving competition last halloween. We were given knives to carve the pumpkin, small kitchen knives kinda like the one below.

Anyway, the knife slipped and i sliced my thumb open, got 8 stitches. Staff were real fast to act with bandages and payed for my A&E bill, but i've a nasty scar now and lost a layer of something (gonna say it was fat). I still have all my function, it's just a bit skinnier, can feel pressure on the bone while hold hard objects.

Is there any reason I should make a claim, would I be entitled to some form of compensation?

I've only been working here a year and my contract is unlikely to be renewed because they're cutting staff, so i figure why keep quiet about the injury and avail of compensation via their insurance.

How were the company negligent to justify a claim?

To be fair, it was a fairly stupid idea to hold a pumpkin carving competition.
