Stupid Stove Question.

Hi guys, I want to stick a wood burning stove in my dining room. Can I do this without destroying my fireplace (i.e. can I just sit it on the marble floor part and feed the flu straight up the chimney through the current opening)? I don't want to mess with the fireplace surround as it is an original feature in an old house.

I'm not looking for a massive stove, just something to heat the living & dining room when connecting doors are open. I'm concerned that it would mean having to access the chimneystack above the original fireplace opening, which would mean losing the surround which is a deal breaker.

Any words from the wise would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Gumby.

Yes it can be done. You may need to remove the fire back if you do not have enough room on hearth for stove. Alternatively you could fit an insert stove. Google "insert stove" images and you will see what I mean.
