How does Ebay/Paypal work from a SELLER's perspective

    Hi,

Can anyone explain to me how paypal works from a seller's perspective on Ebay. I have tickets to sell and initially it looked like I could just select the 'cash on collection' option to receive payment. But then my ad was rejected as the cash payment option was considered unacceptable and it forced me into using Paypal. So, how does paypal work, how exactly do I get my money, as opposed to credit on my paypal account? Are there costs associated with having your paypal credit transfered on to a bank account or what do one-time sellers normally do ? Or is paypal credit only usefull to purchase more stuff on using paypal?

    Thanks,

    Usjes

If you receive money as payment, it costs 3.4% of the total amount received plus 35c. You should factor this into what you charge for the tickets as its taken from the money you receive.
You'll receive the money as paypal funds and you spend or withdraw to your account. There's no fee for either but you will be charged very unfavourable exchange rates if you need to change currency.
Where are you selling? You need to accept paypal if our use ebay, but there are exceptions if its a collection only item. Have you looked at stubhub?

    Hi Kc90,

Thanks for the reply. I just found the whole process using (or rather trying to use) Ebay to be a disaster. I was tyring to sell on ebay.ie so there is no currency issue and this should allow for a cash transaction as I set the delivery method to be collection only, yet still the ad was rejected due to the payment method I had selected. Finally to top it all off my ad did not appear for hours (indexing apparently) and shortly after it did (or maybe even before it did) my account was frozen for 'suspicious activity'. In the end I was thankful for this as I managed to sell the tickets elsewhere so no fees paid to ebay. After this experience I would avoid ebay like the plague. It's basically, in my opinion, unusable.

    Usjes.

I am having a bit of trouble selling something as well.

A buyer has used the buy-it-now option on my item and it is listed as sold. However, I have not received payment and the buyer has emailed me asking me to send them my paypal email or to send them a paypal money request so that they can pay. Is this normal? Their given address is real, I looked it up on google maps. Their email address ends in @yandex.com. Should I be suspicious? This is my first time selling.

This isn't normal. Have they tried to pay but run into trouble? Or, did they just ask for this straight away?
The buyer should pay through ebay. Go to your sold list and on the item, use the send payment details option. They'll receive the invoice again. Contact the buyer and tell them to pay using that.
I'm unsure if there's a possible scam here. Perhaps they generally don't realise, but I'd be very sceptical if this is an expensive item. Do they have much feedback?

They asked for it straight away. Their account started today and has zero feedback. They also asked me to send them photos of the item even though I posted the maximum of twelve photos with the listing. I just canceled this transaction. Unfortunately I now have to wait seven days for them to respond.

You might be getting scammed there. What may happen is they send you an email that looks like it is from PayPal but actually isn't from PayPal saying that so and so has paid you €XX. The idea is that you see this and then think that the money is in your PayPal account and then post the item. The easy way to avoid getting caught by this scam is to check your PayPal account on the PayPal website and see if the money is in your account. Never rely on the emails, always go by what the PayPal website says.
