I have a Ltd company that I have not traded with for over 2 and a half years

there is 8k owed to revenue. There are absolutely no assets

The company is registered at my home address and revenue are threatening to send the sheriff.

Would I be advised to try and set up a "Creditors Voluntary Winding Up" of the company?

Is this a painful process, or is it straightforward?

as above, you should talk to your solicitor or accountant. afaik if the money is owed by the limited company, the sheriff cannot touch any of your personal belongings. no assets = nothing to take!!
