Missed Flight

    Hi

I went travelling around Europe April/May just gone and we were planning on flying home from Dubrovnik on 9th May and we booked flights on about 25th April as we did not want to wait any longer to book them as they would go up.

Basically long story short, we never made it to Dubrovnik to get the flight home as it was 2 days travelling to get there by train.

I took out the 'New premier plus' travel insurance with Multitrip.com, I am wondering would they entertain a claim like this to refund the flight costs (about €200 after deducting the taxes & charges)? I know alot of companies say that I must do my utmost best to try and get the flight etc etc but I don't see this wording anywhere in the policy conditions.

I emailed them on 9th May but am yet to get a response.

Bare in mind this was NOT the plan when I took out insurance on 18th April! We had every intention on flying home from Dubrovnik on 9th May.

Why don't you just ring them and ask.... That way you would get an instant response and not have be still thinking about it and wondering!!!!!

it says you must give yourself enough time to be there for the flight.
Deliberately travelling 2 days after the flight is sortof not fulfilling that aspect

Also, it says it covers delays due to breakdown in public transport.
In your case you were having the crack in Croatia for 2 extra days, so again your fault and not an insurable issue.

Yes it covers delays due to breakdown in public transport but I'm trying to find the wording to say that you must give yourself enough time to make the flight, can't see it. I will be satisfied if I find it and will drop it.

I wasn't in Croatia, I would have definitely got the flight if I was in Croatia!

    Might just ring them so.

    https://www.multitrip.com/IE/PolicyDocument/
and in section I, they will cover missed departures:
, as a direct result of:
    1. the failure of other scheduled Public transport or
    2. an accident to or breakdown of the vehicle which you are travelling or
    3. an accident or breakdown occurring ahead of you on a motorway or dual carriage way which causes an
unexpected delay to the vehicle in which you are travelling or
    4. strike, industrial action or adverse weather conditions
    and below
you must allow sufficient time for the scheduled Public transport or other transport to arrive on schedule
and to deliver you to the departure point

I'd doubt any insurance company would pay you, you didn't miss your flight, you made a decision to change your travel plans

Yeah I expect them not to deal with it but will give them a call anyway. I applied for the taxes off Aer Lingus about a week ago but they're messing me around  telling me that the flights were used!

Such a claim would be nonsense, as you simply decided not to use these flights for your own convenience.
Hopefully they won't pay, as such claims drive up costs for genuine claimants.

I love how you are making out that I am trying to defraud them or something, it was a genuine query as I simply did not see the wording in the policy booklet, and I had a good look through it.

Read my original post thoroughly before jumping to conclusions.

Insurance is designed to safeguard against mishap, not change of mind, otherwise it could not be economic.

It's fairly basic that the insurance is present to compensate you in the event of any unknown factor not a change of mind. You need to look at the insured events which are covered not look for something which precludes you from claiming; you don't have an event of claim to start with.

Insurance covers couldn't turn up not didn't turn up.

    Otherwise it wouldn't be insurance.
