Hi my brother has been offered a job with the Chief Stare Solicitors office in Dublin. He is living in Sligo as he has built a house there and I was wondering does the CSSO do flexi time he's a bit worried about the commute. He has to commute with a mortgage to pay down here.

    Thanks in advance.

    Sligo to Dublin commute?

It's located on Merrion street, he will have some job getting in and out if it's a 9-5 anyway. Has he asked anyone about the hours? Do they know he lives in Sligo?

I think they know where he's from his address it was on the application form but I'm not sure they pass much heed on that. He was waiting to see what the terms and conditions were before asking them anything but I just thought I'd research it for him and see if I could find out anything. The train goes up an down morning and evening so if they did flexi time I don't think it wud be a problem but he'll soon know:)

Looking at the train timetable for Sligo to Dublin he would have to get the 5.45am train to Dublin that gets in to Dublin at 8.47. Coming home he could get the 17.05 train on some days if he has flexi but in order to make sure he does not go into negative time on his flexi clock he would have to wait to get the next train (19.05) on at least one day a week.

If there is no Flexi the working day would be 0900 to 17.45.

That is 6 hours a day commuting. Bloody hell.

Getting to Merrion from Heuston and vice-versa at that hour as well...

I thought he'd be driving and even then it would be a push!

A bit of misinformation on this thread. The CSSO's office is on little ship street behind Dublin Castle, off Dame St. The Sligo train goes to Connolly, not heuston.

Yes OP they do have flexi there, whether your brother will get it depends on what grade he is coming in at. It is a huge commute and don't forget flexi isn't just to suit the employee, but also the employer. He might be asked to stay later than a time that suits for him to make the 5.05pm train. Could even be On a regular basis depending on the office.

Hi Tigger99 thanks for the reply. My bro was saying that his lunch is from 1:00pm to 2:15pm. Would you be required to take the full hour or could you take half an hour and use the 45 minutes then to leave work at 5pm do you think?

If that's his lunch then he is not on flexi. He will have to be in the office from 9am to 5.45pm. I doubt he'll be able to leave early. Even if he comes to some sort of local arrangement it will leave a sour taste in his new colleagues mouth.

If he's not on flexi he's probably in quite a senior post, so to be honest he's prob kidding himself that he can leave by 5pm either way.
