Who to vote for if you know nothing about any of the candidates ?

These local elections have me a bit
I'm a blow in, might be living here 10 years but I'll always be a blow in.
I have never paid the slightest bit of attention to local politics or the area representatives.

Now I know the conscientious thing to do is to study each of the candidates before casting my vote, perhaps consult with a few of the locals to get a feel for the field but I haven't time for any of that.

With my total lack of knowledge I believe the correct thing to do is abstain but that flies in the face of what were told about the vote & hard it was to win the right.
I could do eney menie Clarkson style but that's not right is it.

Ok, I'm not voting FF cause they still need to be punished & I'm not voting SF cause I have a memory.
Outside that I'll vote no.1 for the candidate closest to me working outwards to number 5 or 6.

Anyone else have a similar scheme in place ?

Vote no. 1 for the most attractive one and leave the rest blank.

It would be great for international relations if Ireland was known as the 'sexy politician' country.

Why not just vote for the Party that they represent? After all, the Councillors and MEPs will be voting along party policy guidelines. No need to study them individually, just vote for the party that has policies that you believe in.

Of course, you might have difficulty telling FF and FG apart. And Labour have one set of policies on paper but roll with whoever they can. The rest (apart from SF) count as a protest vote, just as SF used to be.

Such a shame about Labour. They really need to be a LABOUR party again.

They all have red ties. That's what matters, right? Right?

vote for person closest to you...

Irish politcs summed up in one line. Ah sure Johnny grew up down the road I'll vote for him, his policies and lack of experience or ethics make him a terrible choice but sure he's local.

Same with note voting for a party based on history, does that rule FG out for their blueshirt history?

If you don't know who to vote for then ask them questions when they are at your door, go to meetings they hold, read every leaflet and newspaper you can.

If you don't feel well enough informed on the matter don't vote, you don't make other descisions in life (well maybe minor ones) without finding out as much as you can

Only one way to convince them to do that.

I don't vote as noone represents my views of a free Ulster free from foreign rule and with no Dublin influence.

Four candidates have been to our door over the last few weeks.

One was more interested in the fact that he didn't know us and just handed us some paperwork and left.

Number two was only interested in what MPG we got from our car. He also sat in his own car while sending a guy in his early 80's to the door who just handed us more paraphernalia and left.

Number three decided to send his sister to do his canvassing for him. She didn't even get out of her car to speak to me. Just handed out more fire starting material and drove away.

Candidate 4 asked me my name, how my mother was handed me a leaflet and left.

Are they supposed to try and sell me something or is it up to me to make all the moves?

Vote for the youngest candidate. They know what's up.

What's the point in asking them questions?they'll just tell you what you want to hear and do little or nothing when elected.
Some of them might have a track record but in the OP's case it might be hard to judge.

Scratch out all the SF candidates and stick a pin in what's left if your really civically minded about voting.

Here in Spain, you don´t vote for the candidate, you vote for the party. One vote, one party. Worst.System.Everrrr.

I´ve been mulling over my vote the last week trying to decide on the best of the evils but knowing the country's political system is, in reality, bipartisan and if I vote for an alternative to the "Big Two", it´ll be a waste of vote.

But you can catch them on the hop, most of the time they go to a house nobody answers, most of the time someone does answer its hi and bye.

They aren't ready for questions so hit them from left field. I asked one of the local lads about the new cycle lanes in letterkenny, he said they were great yada yada yada. Then i asked why aren't they the legally required width under EU and Irish law, why they went nowhere, why are cars still not getting done for stopping in them or ignoring them.

    No answer no vote
