Quick question, is it an NCT fail if the auto headlight level system is disabled?
One of my sensors is faulty and a new one is €380, I have the system disabled with the headlights levelled but there is a warning light on the dash.

AFAIK If they are fitted, then they have to work.

many a time motor goes on the adjustable ones and left unplugged and lights set ,i would try putting it in even with light on dash, lights work and they dont move dials to check.

I have factory auto levelling with xenons on my Audi allroad and I don't believe the NCT checks anything bar headlight alignment. I'm not sure how they would check auto levelling. Once the headlights are aligned, you should be fine.

If they are HID lights then you might have an issue. That said, they will check that the auto leveling system is there; I am not sure however if they check whether or not it is working.

    Re Auto levelling.

Its as simple as this, the NCT cannot test it as it could be 10+ minutes for the car to set the auto-level if they apply a load to the boot to initiate an auto-level.

The NCT therefore has to accept that its working if the car meets the headlight level check as presented, which just happens to be the same as the manual check when set to level "0".

    As per NCT manual
Check where possible that the headlamp levelling device is working.
, this auto-levelling not a requirement, probably for the reasons above, but they are very clear on headlight washers and the use of HID bulbs only in a HID-approved headlight.

Yes you will get the testers that are in a lazy mood that will not look for it and you do get the odd ball older car that may not have washers, but these are in the minority.
