Hi, my neighbours have decided to raise the level of the dividing wall between our gardens. They did so without telling me and the "work" is sloppy, unprofessional and appalling looking on my side. There are big lumps of cement on some of the bricks, holes between the cement and it simply looks as if he leaned over the wall, slapped cement in some random places and left it at that. It looks terrible. There was no "pointing" done and I cannot possibly paint it in the state its in. Anybody any idea of the legal situation here? I've sent a registered letter to them, together with photos, requesting that the situation be put right, but I don't expect them to heed it. I don't have the money for a legal battle, but could get a solicitor's letter sent but might do no good....I could repair at my own expense but I'm so upset at what they did....

Just a reminder that legal advice is not permitted on the forums. A solicitor should be contacted who will be able to provide this service.

I will however leave the thread open for people to give general advice or discuss the topic.

If relations arent the best between ye, would the higher the wall mean the less ye've to see of each other. I'd personally leave the wall alone and get a handy man to patch it up at some stage. A bit of pointing would cost very little.

You can't point big gobs and dollops of cement that are just sitting on the surface of the blockwork.

if its not done too long ago it is easy enough to remove them with a lump hammer and chisel

Invite him in for a cup of tea, show him how the wall looks from your site and ask him politely to finish it off to a decent standard.
