Contradictions on Theory Test CD?

I'm studying for the theory test at the minute and one question that popped up a good bit is the stopping distance for vehicles travelling at 100 Km/h on a dry road, the answer being 77 metres.
Last night though I took the CD quiz again and got asked "What is the minimum safe distance to leave between vehicles travelling at 100Km/h on a dry road?", it gave the correct answer as 62 metres.
What am I missing here? If you are 62 metres behind the car in front, and have to break suddenly, the stopping distance is 77 metres, so surely you smash into the back of him???

I would have thought that they take into account the fact that the car in front is driving, so you will have some warning that they are going to stop.

Bar them driving straight into a brick wall or equivalent, you ought to have at least the 77 metres to come to a stop.

Having said that, it goes against the rule that you "should be able to stop within the distance you can see to be clear", so perhaps they have got it wrong.

Maybe send an email to the RSA and ask them to clarify?

Are you sure that both of them were referring to a DRY road? One of them could have been wet, and one dry...?

That's what I thought first, but they definitely both said 'Dry'.
