We're switching off m.boards.ie

    Hello all,

Many, many moons ago, people had the idea that the internet should work on a mobile phone. This was seen by most to be a good idea. 2.5G and wifi became a thing and more people decided to get web enabled phones (they weren't just made by Blackberry/RIM anymore), so naturally, they wanted to see Boards.ie on their newly acquired devices (they even started having cameras too!). Thus m.boards.ie was conceived, born and given life.

Along came 3G, iPhones, Android and all the rest and m. became quite dated looking as well as not making the most out of the new opportunities to present a more complete version of the site the updated technology afforded us.

So, we decided, having built a shiny new API, to put it to the test with a touch screen and mobile friendly version of the site that would mean that we could stop looking at the basic and restricted m. Some people prefer this sort of interface, and there is a universal truth that any time you change something people are used to using, they won't like it :) As far as I'm concerned, that's a perfectly normal and reasonable reaction so I'm not trying to suggest that there's anything wrong about it. To these people I'm sincerely sorry that we have to do this, but we have to do this.

Old skins hold us back. Significantly. This is why we have spent the last 4 years telling people that they will have to go away one day and will not come back. m. broke something yesterday, it's been patched up for now, but that patch isn't permanent.

So m.boards.ie will be permanently switched off on the 27th of May which is 2 weeks from now. You will be redirected to touch. if you try to access m. after that date.

An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
