Adblock plus not working?

Is it just me or has Adblock plus stopped working altogether lately?
I'm updating the Easylist filter every day but I still get ads all over the place, on websites and in apps, on several different devices.

Are there any better ad blocking apps?

    I use adfree http://adfree.bigtincan.com/

but there are a few apps that still display ads. It works silently in the background, no notification icon or anything.

If you're using Chrome the problem is with it rather than the adblocker. Go into Settings > Bandwidth Management and turn off Reduce Data Usage. It routes all your data through Google and prevents the adblocker settings working properly because its all coming from the one address.

Hope that helps, had the same issue last week.

Does it block YouTube videos on boards for you guys? Not the most desirable side effect if it can't be disabled.

It blocks the preroll ads on the youtube app but not sure about embedded videos. Probably, I haven't seen any, but there might not have been ads.

It blocks the actual videos on me. I just get a blank space where the YouTube clip should be.

    Maybe that's what happens when there's a pre-roll video.

I can't see a single embedded video on that thread, for example. Can anyone else who's running adfree?

    What settings do you use?

If you're having the greyed out save issue make sure there is no space after localhost. Most keyboards insert a space when you hit enter. So if it's "localhost " you need to delete the trailing space to enable the save button

This is how i got Adblock plus working again, not sure if you want to go back to it..
But this is how, found it on another site.

I've been using adaway for the past few years. It's fairly simple - all it does is add entries to /etc/hosts.

The advantage of this is that ads are blocked in apps as well as in browsing.

I would also recommend using a firewall (eg droidwall) to black list any apps that have no business being online. This stops them from downloading ads and so gives an additional layer of protection.

How would one go about editing the hosts file to remove YouTube from the blacklist?

    Edit- answer:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nilhcem.hostseditor
search for ytimg and remove then disable updating hosts file in adfree.
