    Hi Folks,
is there anyone that can advice on psychmetric tests from Mike Murphy in Galway?
One of the companies i am targeting uses him as the last step in recruitment process.
Is there any preparation that can be done?
Any advice or hints much appreciated...

    Many Thanks,

    Hope2014

    Hello

I don't know anything about the tester in Galway but he will probably use one of the standard psychometric tests. I have sent you a private message with a link to some free practice tests and some preparation tips.

Preparation is key and remember you can't fail a psychometric test; it just gives an indication of your attributes.
They should never be used as the primary selection tool and most often given to the interviewers if they highlight strong matches or mismatches with the role.

In my experience you can't really prepare for a psychometric test (although looking at a few examples on line is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the type of questions you'll be asked)

That said I do believe you can cheat them - if you can think about what the ideal attributes are for a praticular role you can answer accordingly. Bear in mind that your opinion may differ from the potential employer so honesty is generally the best practice

Hi guy's I have a psychometric test with Mike Murphy coming up and I was wondering how you found him. I am applying for an engineering role and I was wondering if you could offer any words of wisdom.

I appreciate any advise/heads up on what to expect.

I've done quite a few of these tests over the years working for Medical Device companies in Galway & the NW.

I'd agree that an honest approach to the test is the best approach, also aim to complete as many questions accurately and thoughtfully within the time allowed rather than racing through the entire list randomly ticking A. B. C. Etc...

    Plus, don't over think it.

Incidentally I have a college friend hoping to be called for his first one with Mike very soon, if anyone does have any links to practice examples of be appreciated.

One piece of advice is to answer to the extremes, in other words, if given 5 options, they tend to range from one extreme to the other, I found when I was doing practice tests that my honest answers which tended to be one of the two less extreme options gave me a pretty crappy overall result. When I changed my approach to selecting the more extreme option (but still the one most aligned with my honest answer), my overall results were more in line with what I would like a prospective employer to think!!
Try a few practice tests and you'll see what I mean.

This thread popped up again after I posted on it two years ago. What Glenbhoy said makes perfect sense.

Also remember that these tests are for a potential employer consider how you behave in work and apply that to the test. Very often how you act at home and in work are different. (that's my excuse for having split personality anyway)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread...but I'm going to be doing one of these tests with Mike soon, and was wondering if by chance those links to practice tests and preparation tips are still doing the rounds?
