I was wondering about our newly installed water meter and how to shut off mains supply in an emergency.

    I took a sneaky pic:

Is the blue handle the shutoff valve? If so which way to turn to shut off the supply?

Turning the blue handle clockwise only a quarter turn shuts off the water supply.

Looks fragile. Take great care as time goes on. Plastic valves (it looks plastic anyway!) have a knack of seizing from my experience with them.

The key to minimizing any valve from seizing is when you fully open it turn it the slightest way back towards closed. It should not get locked open if you do this.

The meter chamber should have been fitted with a rigid insulation cover which is removed to access the meter, the underside of this insulation has a label affixed with instructions for turning of the valve.
