Notice Period

    I started a job recently (2 weeks) its not what I expected. I applied for another job which I may get.

    Due to the slowness of this companies HR department I still haven't even seen a copy of my contract never mind signed it. The role is permanent. My query is do I have an obligation to work a notice period which I presume will be 1 month?

    If an employee has been working for an employer for less than 13 weeks and has no contractual obligation to give notice then the employee is not obliged to give notice.

    as loverman quotes, you're free to go. just make sure it's the right decision two weeks seems a very short time to make up your mind.

    This used to be 6 months, wonder when it changed.

    If your contract arrives and you sign it, you are then required to abide by the contract.

    So the obvious solution is to delay signing the contract.

    I know someone hoping to make a move shortly, all goin well. Question is, he got a contract for one year with a specified end date. It is now 3 years later and the end date on the contract is well past. Does the month notice period still apply?

    How much notice would he expect to receive of his work coming to an end? Treat the employer the same way.

    Feel free to explain to a new employer that you need to do this. A decent company will understand and I wouldn't have any respect for a company that didn't.

    Maybe did not explain properly... Neither company will budge...but his mental health depends on the job change...the existing company has some acceptance of this fact...so now what is the position? Difference is two weeks and the month... Not many jobs around in his field...
