Just watched this commercial about child abuse and truly did leave me speechless! I know the child is acting but still sickening to think that an adult would treat a child this way.

Man beating the child, woman doing the voice over to help them

Sadly it happens. More frequently than perhaps we realise the only unfortunate thing is that most children are trained to deny anything is going on and the bruises are not that obvious. Scars run deep.

It'd never be a woman hammering he crap out of the child:rolleyes:
Women just aren't capable of that

Does it matter if it's a man or a woman? The stark reality is that there are kids getting battered by adults every day.

Pretty sickening alright. I was lucky enough to have a very happy and carefree childhood. Every young person deserves it.

Yup same here, grew up in a house that was always filled with laughter but had a friend who always seemed to have a black eye or bruises on his arms. His old man was a **** and used to drink a lot (even seen the mother with a split lip and black eye once).

Why are people turning this into a gender issue :/

I could understand if the ad was specifically targeting men in some way, like the man up campaign but the man in the video takes up very little of the screen most of the time, they don't even show his face. It's clearly not what the producer intended to be the main focus.

    Unless I missed something?

Would say it could be a butch woman but don't want to upset the LGBT crowd:D But seriously though we know women can be as bad

But gender doesn't come into it, You have to wonder how detached from reality are these people that they can physically harm a child....THEIR child!

Unfortunately it doesn't really leave me speechless, that's pretty much how I was brought up and probably lots of people

It's not a gender issue in the slightest. The kid is the main point in this video and the gender of the person is irrelevant.

It's an interesting point to make that the perpetrators in these adds are nearly always male.

The emotional abuse and manipulation that mothers specialise in doesn't translate onto screen too well.

It's the law. Every AH thread must be turned into a trivial argument / battle of the egos for absolutely no valid reason by the end of the first page, or the internet will explode.

    How has that been suggested?
I was thinking all right when watching it that child abusers are nearly always depicted as men (even though there are plenty of staggering cases of child abuse by women) however the ad isn't saying a woman isn't capable of doing such a thing, and it seems kinda... in poor taste to focus more on the gender angle than... child abuse.

Its an advert about child abuse.Turning child abuse awareness into a gender issue is a bit crap tbh, I'm only glad the child actor isn't a girl or the internet would explode.

That little fella is a great actor, it's a very affecting ad.

When has it ever been suggested? Never.
I'll agree with speechless but only cos I think its totally inapproprite. Its not to take away from the message thats trying to be relayed but I think the ad went too far for the medium it is. Surely there are other methods to highlight abuse than to have faceless man/husband /father depicted as the abuser. Its the tried and tested script for nearly all kinds of abuse. Kinda washes ove rme at this stage.

Kid is a great actor tho.

I was walking around Aldi last week, a woman was walking around with her 4-5 year old son and twins in a buggy, she tried to get past my trolley when my back was turned picking something up and I of course apologised when I realised what had happened, she gave me a death stare and walked on. We crossed paths again a few times and she was basically berating the little bit the whole time, st one point she kept telling him he was a dog, he was saying "I'm not a dog Mammy", but she just kept repeating it saying "you are a dog cause you keep being bold" . I was honestly disgusted, what a foul excuse for s human being, if she has no problem speaking to her child like that in a public place then what is she saying and doing behind closed doors. If I knew her name I would have made a complaint to the HSE there and then.
