    Very strange timing this...
It took me quite a while to get good at the mental aspect of poker and without knowing about this article, I had a similar conversation during yesterday's round.
Have been thinking a lot lately about less tilt and more grind on the course.

I had all the mental weaknesses to be a failure at poker when I started, but I got there in the end and had some big tournament wins.
Over the last few weeks the similarities dawned on me and I've been focused on doing a similar transition in golf.

Golf has replaced poker as my "get away" too. A 5 hour round suits a relationship a lot better than a 12 hour stint in the Fitz.

Was pretty obsessed with poker for a few years:
    - Read the books
    - Watched the shows
    - Spent hours playing
    - Day dreamed about it often going over hands and $h1t.
    - Love the game
    - Loved going to new casinos and meeting people through poker

Haven't played in two years. Felt a bit like going to work in the end. Poker never cost me a penny. In fact I still have a couple of accounts with money in them that I must clear out. Will still play socially. Great experience. Got a lot out of it personally.

Hope to beak 70 and eventually have a single handicap. Golf has cost me a $h1t load of money!

Both are great hobbies while you enjoy putting in the work on your game. If you don't put in the work however, and expect good results, these games will beat you up.

Couldnt have put it better. Didnt know you were a poker player, before the kids came i was a tuesday regular at the Fitz and spent a lot of time in The Macua in cork. Next time we are out let me tell you about my 32 minutes in the WSOP in 2008 !!!

That sounds like Aces getting cracked :)

My last game of poker seen me walk away with a big tournament win up there.
Paid for an engagement ring & holiday the next day and that was that. All out.

    Haven't played since.
She got a nice bloody ring out of it too.
When I think back on the hours spent playing it's just madness.

I actually think the game is very useful in much more than golf... Life, business, etc.
But you can't have a life, business, golf if you're playing poker full time, it's fairly all consuming.
