Did you replace the seals with new ones that came with the filter? Are the in and return lines properly 're attached?
If it's the style filter as my Audi you need to make sure the metal slot key Is fully clicked in to get a full seal.

I didnt replace the seals, could this be causing the problem?

    I would go with 'Yes'.
The seals will wear/warp especially when in contact with diesel fuel.

Mine is different. However judging by that pic your filter should have come with a large rubber o ring that will sit on top of that.

yea its somewhat built onto it, tho the center screw that comes out has a tiny o ring on it, might be worth replacing that, i wonder can i get a o ring through the main dealer?

you should be able to get it at local motor factors but you will need to take it out as they will need the size.
Did you refill the filter with diesel before you sealed it up?

yup i filled it up, i just opened it back up there earlier to check it for an O ring, i dont think id risk taking the old one out without having a replacement just incase i break it taking it off, id be in trouble then lol
