Hi all, I have received a letter offering me a chance to apply for a Ce scheme which I know lasts a year for 19.5 hours a week, however I've already signed up to a course(Fetac 5) starting in September that lasts for 9 to 10 months at about thirty hours a week. Obviously I can't juggle both as the hours would overlap. Does that qualify as "good cause" to refuse the ce scheme as I've already something lined up? I'd appreciate any help as it's wrecking my head and I don't know what to tick on the form. Thank you to any who can help me out.

They will be happy with either as both will take you off the Live Register. Choose which you want to do most. CE schemes can be great and you can learn a lot or it can be another type of experience. On CE, you get a flat rate of 208 Euro pw regardless of what payment you are on now. On a Fas course you will just get same amount as you are getting now plus travel if you qualify for that and a few euro extra for meals. Similarly, some Fas courses are great and some not so. Check out locally what you can about the CE scheme place and the Fas course - have the CE placements there been good and is the Fas tutor of that course good and did people get jobs after it?
