Just heard about this recently, looks quite good with Viggo Mortensen and another "man of the moment" actor Oscar Isaac

OT but Daisy Bevan looks the spit of her mam Joely Richardson

Directorial debut from the writer of Drive (although Refn reworked that script a lot and didn't take credit for it) Hossein Amini, did write the awful 47 Ronin and Snow White and the Huntsman. But any film with Viggo Mortensen is always worth a watch, Oscar Issac seems like a talented guy and Kirsten Dunst is turning into a interesting actress. It's been getting decent reviews so could be a decent watch.

Big fan of Patricia Highsmith, so I'm really looking forward to this, as well as the upcoming Carol.

To be fair, the initial script for 47 Ronin was very different to what we saw in the end. There were huge rewrites after production was finished and extensive reshoots which altered the film completely. All the magic nonsense was thrown in there by the studio after the film had wrapped.

    Seen it tonight, excellent.

Other than a couple of cliches, which could have been avoided by a faster edit in the odd place and maybe a slight reworking of the odd scene, so the audience didn't get the time to think too much about what was about to happen.. and it would have been a perfect film for me.

As it stands, it is still a great film. A real throw back to the days of classic thrillers. Almost feels like it should be in B&W. Really surprising a story this good was not made into a film years ago, giving that the novel it was based on is just over 50 years old now.

All performances are pretty much flawless, even from Dunst, who I used to find a little samey, or at least I did back when she was flavour of the month.

Definite must see, just make sure you don't go with someone prone to chattering and be sure to give the WC a quick visit beforehand too, as miss a line of dialogue here or there with this film and with out question there will be a gaping hole in the story at some point for you before it ends.

    Bravo!!

Wonderful thriller and really the best I've seen within the genre for a long time. Three strong performances; good pacing; twists and an ever deepening web of moral dilemmnas that never seems too forced or outlandish; great use of period and location; good score.

The film presents us with three flawed characters who all have ethically and morally murky motivations to one extent or the other and their characterisation and interaction provides a good driver for the story. All three are kinda likeable and kinda not, and this works really well to keep the viewer engaged and on their toes. All three actors do a great job at allowing their faces to portray what their words deliberately don't which produces some deliciously tense moments.

    Strongly recommended.

You can tell it's based on a Highsmith novel as it almost has a feel of Ripley about it. I thought it was a solid, well-acted thriller.

Really can't wait to see this, looks like a good, intelligent thriller with a strong cast.

I saw this last night, and am hard pushed to elicit a response any more in-depth than a single, miserly 'meh'. It does little of note, but does so competently. It is like a product of another time, which is both an asset and a liability - while it feels modestly refreshing in its old school thriller delivery (it really could have been made in the 50s), almost every twist and setpiece feels like something we've seen 100 times before, and in many cases done significantly better. It's constantly moving forward at a steady, lively pace, yet also feels contrived and mechanical. The European locales are scrumptious, but the cinematography mostly bland. Mortensen turns in a good performance, Dunst can't really keep up, and Issacs is simply solid. It's one of those films where for every positive there's a negative, and the result is in its way kind of dissonant - it's certainly enjoyable, but also very much underwhelming. I hate to repeat the word meh, so 'enjoyably bland', maybe?

One thing I did unreservedly like was how all the shenanigans effectively served as a way for Issacs' character to come to terms with his father's death. It wasn't overplayed (quite subtle in some cases, like the way some key scenes were set in archeological sites), and worked well as a result.

This is a good film with three interesting leads. However i wish i had never seen the goddamn trailer as it gives way to much away. The first hour of the film is the best part as i felt it got a bit silly the last 20 minutes or so. Mortenson's character is the most likeable of the three as Isaac plays a real sneaky lowlife with Dunst caught in the middle. Great locations in it and it was nice to head back to a good old-fashioned thriller.
