New Laptop all the time refreshing while watching online content

Hi, I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1N1 with windows 8.1.

However no matter what we are watching, be it RTE Player, Youtube, 4oD etc., it'll play fine for a bit then may refresh for 10 to 20 seconds, play a bit more and refresh again.

I thought it might be a problem with the internet/router (digiweb 3mb) but I have a Windows 7 desktop with a bluetooth wifi adapter and it'll play all night long without refreshing.

As you can imagine it's bloody annoying but to be honest I'm not sure what to check on the laptop so any help is appreciated. :)

Can you connect it with an ethernet cable and check if the refreshing still happens? It might be anything like the wifi dropping the connection/packets. If it still happens on cable, try using Chrome and updating flash player. Use chrome in desktop mode rather than metro.

I have checked the flash player and it's up to date. I've always used chrome. Will try and root out the cable and try that and see what happens!

I can't remember if the 8.1 version of Toshibas have the Service Station app. If they do see if you have any drivers update to the Wifi card. If not, check the card manufacturer's website for possible updates.

I presume, you have installed all the Windows Updates?

If everything fails, try replacing your modem router. DigiWeb uses ADSL, right? Any old Eircom or Vodafone router should work once you change login details in the routers configuration page.

Ah, and one more thing: have you turned any eco mode or power saver?

I have just watched a 40 min program on 4oD without one refreshing episode even through the ads thanks to you masterofp!

I had downloaded the update to windows last week (842 mb if I remember correctly) but going to the Service Station and clicking check for updates brought up two updates, one for Toshiba Video Player 5.3.4.120 (142 mb) and one which said "Releasing QFE (TC30711800A) for all Windows 8.1 installed models" (22 mb).

I downloaded and installed them, restarted the laptop and all is fine now!

    Thanks a mill :)
