Thinking of doing a bike maintenance course, just to be able to cover a few bits such as maintaining gears, cable replacements and general servicing, the kind of stuff that needs doing occasionally. Tried google to see whats out there and the courses I got were:

    bikemaintenance.ie
    rothar.ie/bike-maintenance-classes.html
(sorry they're not links, not permitted to post url's or pictures in case I accidentally take over the world!).

Anyone able to recommend any others or comment on either of the above??

Loads of great videos here for free. Just ignore the music at the start of each video!

    Jim,

I did one of these courses in Malahide Community School over 2 Saturdays last October. The tutor was a guy called Michael Ulman and he was superb. It was 10am until 4pm each Saturday and cost was €70. I have included a link for the previous course but it has a phone number if you want to enquire as to when it may be on again.

You bring your own bike with you and replace gear cables, remove and clean bottom bracket, head set, back cassette, reindex your gears, change brake cables and a lot more as well.

I could not recommend it highly enough as it gave me a lot of confidence and know how.

A friend of mine did one in Rothar. He brought along his own bike to work on, and unfortnately the lesson involved stripping all the cables off the bikem and there wasn't enough time to help him put the new ones on, so he had to walk home.

Probably just one of those things, as I think everyone else was essentially refurbishing a rescued bike, so not finishing didn't matter.
