I see references to it everywhere on the net, then went there today and it's just a load of porn and nonsense-talk on a site that looks like it's from the 1990's

What's the deal with the place? Is that really what all the fuss is about?

It's grand, people like to make things out to be really hardcore when really they're not. It's like the way other forum Mods talk about AH. You'd swear anything goes on when really it's quite strict.

It is the internet's nappy, all the sh1t heads that way where it's trapped and kept from the rest of us.

Sometimes leakages occur when opened recklessly.

I just don't really get it - there's random porn, but there's better sites for porn if that's what a person is after. There's nonsense talk, but there's forum boards for nonsense talk.

It's like a really disorganized version of AH with added random porn and casual racism - or at least that's the impression I got in the 2 or so minutes I went there

/b/ is kind of like AH in the sense that everyone who's been there more than a week complains that it used to better and a sizeable proportion of both user groups have some kind of nabby we r so rebel thing going on in their heads.
/b/ isn't the dark heart of the internet, and AH isn't nearly as edgy as some people would like to think.
That said, I've some fond memories of both.

It's just a cesspit of Internet garbage. You would really wonder about some of the users on there. I like /mu/ though.

Trust me though, /b/ is not the worst the internet has to offer. I've been on the 'darker' more hidden parts of the internet and it's genuinely devoid of any humanity, really disturbing stuff, and I'm fairly open minded.

A lot of the really famous internet memes used to originate from there (though I'd imagine they mostly come from reddit now). But they are very much diamonds in the very very rough.

Not to bitch or rip off other people's opinions on it, but it's just a cesspool.
I spent about 2 years as a regular poster, and I heartily regret it. You can say almost anything on the site and no one cares, so you put on a fake, heartless, racist tough guy persona to fit in with the rest of the losers who spend a decent amount of time there.

Alot of the talk is porn, child porn, goings on in the world through twisted views, people thinking they're funny or cool with cringe threads or just plain psychopathic stuff, like mutilation and gore, drugs, illegal goings on, made up stories apartantly from your life to make yourself seem cool to your /b/ros, porn and ponies (obviously)

And a ridiculous amount of flame wars.

But as the stuff on there leaks, and black humor becomes more widespread and accepted, if that's the word, it'll just get bigger and more popular

I've completely lost myself here so I'll wrap this up.

Tl:dr Teenagers trying to be cool to fit in with other teenagers

/b/ is a constantly streaming imageboard, and everyone is anonymous, which means that thousands of people are posting images of whatever they want, all of the time. You never know what you're going to get and there is minimal moderation.

I used to frequent it a lot. The sense of humor there is hard to get your head around but once you get it, it's pretty funny and can become addictive. However, the racism and tendency for stuff to get a little too dark pushed me away eventually.

It's the HQ for the group 'Anonymous' which I'm sure you've heard of. Anonymous is basically users of /b/ who band together to execute whatever rebellious plan they think of next, be it trolling a TV show with prank calls or ruining an internet poll with ridiculous voting.

/b/ is the toilet of the internet, the one you can freely access that is. Teenagers trying to out-do one another by posting inane, sometimes illegal, or edgy stuff to seem cooler than the rest. It was a different place about 5-6 years ago, these days it's full of idiots...teenage idiots.

The rest of the site is not really that bad. Different boards for different subjects/genres.

I wouldn't compare AH to /b/ at all.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Rule number one: You do not talk about /b/.
Rule number two: You do NOT talk about /b/.
OP is a... Wait, that'll probably get me banned around here ;)

Used to go on 4chan and other chans etc got bored with the layout and constant quoting of the same ****.

But god ill never regret the day i downloaded the Reddit app for my phone !

That place is the internet now a days every bit of everything tends to appear on there first.

Got to the stage where most sites and even news sites just pull stuff straight off Reddit and use it as content.

Haha, no it wasn't, it was exactly the same. I suspect the only thing that's changed is that you're no longer a teenag idiot

Unfortunately /b/ has forever stained my view of Reddit, is it worth changing?

It's pretty tame compared to the unrelenting darkness I've seen in the deep corners of the net unlike you squares.

    Am I saying that right?

    4chan is a website.
    It's a discussion forum.
Many of the are "worksafe" boards. Which means you can't post anything that would be considered NSFW (not safe for work) so no porn, for example.

/b/ is just a board and it has little to no rules; with the exception of things like child porn, it's free reign.

Oh and their is no account system.

To be honest I don't find Reddit to be a lot better at times. There's this real 'Internet tough guy' attitude going on in a lot of comments and people trying to act edgy and cool so they get their upvotes. Not to mention some really disturbing subreddits I've seen that I really thought would not be allowed (beatingwomen and jailbait). What's also worse is the moderators are usually on absolute power trips, and users can get shadow banned (basically made invisible to all other users) and it has been used in malicious ways against high profile users before. I can't say I really like that site at all, despite using it now and again for some niche topics.
