Recorded while driving

Here is a weird one for ye, driving to work this morning and noticed the guy behind me holding his mobile up in a manor to allow him to record traffic in front, ie me. he was doing this for a while, I was keeping an eye on him, but due to me wearing sunglasses he did not know that. When he got closer I dropped the glasses and watched him in the mirror until he coped I was watching him. He dropped his phone down and continued on. I put my glasses back on and off he went again. I was waiting for the next set of traffic lights so I could try and get more info, but he pulled off into a carpark. Since I was running late for work I headed on.

Just worried incase there is some scam out there. Anyone come across this before? Or is it probably just some spanner nut case. I might try and get going a bit early in the morning and keep an eyer for him, see if he is still doing it.

Weird. I'd have had to turn around and pull into car park to ask him what he was at regardless of being late for work.

Otherwise it'd just be continuouslt playing on my mind!

heard of fellas and women being pulled in or flagged down telling them they have been recorded driving carelessly by strangers, so if you start getting nuisance calls beware, definitively you should consider having a word with your local garda in case some one is considering copying your reg for a stunt and
i certainly would not consider contacting individual involved

Maybe they just liked your car ?

If you'd done nothing wrong you needn't worry. Besides he'd hardly admit to making the video anyway, if you'd confronted him.

he wont admit to anything illegal why should he its one mans word against another. may be watching a sat nav app directions, but if your car is targeted you might not know for several weeks or months and it wont hurt to take precautions, heard on news of woman in hospital after car-jacking attempt in Dublin tonight and unfortunately it was not only one recently,
as for doing some thing wrong, photoshop can be used in different ways

If you drive a high end car or work some where you have access to cash, I'd be taking measures OP. If not, the lad could have been SnapChatting as said or making some nonsense video. Its a public place, he's actually entitled to be doing this. Hold the phone however would illegal.

I got filmed on the M8 once, passed out a guy who sped up and kept pace with me, obviously filming...i came to the conclusion he just liked the car

Possible it was his car before you got it?

Guy told me before he seen his car which he bought new sold it on and years later seen it and took phone out to take pic, ended up as a taxi and the driver got out ready to give him a beating as he didn't understand why he was taking photo.

He couldn't afford a car cam so used his phone instead. While it might be unusual to see someone obviously recording you it wouldn't be unusual to be recorded by car cameras. Even halfords is selling these now.

There is lots of apps for iphone and android that have car cam recorder. I down loaded a couple myself but couldn't be bother tying up the phone running these apps and having phone in window angled for best road view when the car cams are so cheap and more discreet.

Why wouldn't he admit to taking the video? He'd done nothing wrong except hold a phone while driving. I'm referring to the actuall filming

08 Mondeo diesel, in bad need of a back box and a wash, don't think he liked it that much. Was previously owned by a women who lives miles from where I was, as in different county. My main concern is my wife works in a bank and tiger raid comes to mind, we have informed security in her place, just in case. Didn't see him this morning but will be keeping an eye out. Doubt it was sat nav as he seem to know where he was going and the fact he dropped the phone down when he seen me watching him.

in fairness, if he was gathering info for a tiger raid, you'd imagine there'd be no need to be recording you driving down the road?

Nor would he be so blatently obvious about recording you, I wouldnt have thought anyway.

If they were going for a Tiger raid, I'd say a 50 quid camera would have cut the grade and not a Phone.

Can't imagine there's anything in it OP. Irrespective, if you're concenred get your wife to inform the branch manager of the whole thing. There's a process there for that reason.

Yeah, Tiger raid was more on her mind than mine. Since he wasn't drinking Fizzy Orange probably not that. Put it down to some plank looking for a large fine & court date....

He could just have put daily Roads voyager or similar on his phone and was trying it out.

Maybe snapchatting/video call and realised there was a Model infront of him...Maybe the driver thought it was an unmarked Garda car and dripped the phone hoping he wouldn't get a fine/points

Everyone should be recording everyone else. If the technology is there to allow recording in public then it should be used by all citizens. We'll all get used to it in a short time.

Precisely the opposite, would you not think?

If people take power from the state by doing their own recording isn't it the antithesis of bigbrother?

Personal responsibility, policed by your peers. Utopia? I think so!

But the peers of most motorists are idiots, who can't drive.
If those are the people to police our driving, there is no hope for us all.

I'd be against all out big brother but there is a serious opening for ANPR even running as an App or a cheap as chips camera in every car in the country. Imagine how easy it would be to track a stolen car? Or if there was an alert out? Suitable encryption and only available to relevant authorities but I think it would be a very good idea. Impossible to implement but on paper I can't see a downside. The days of privacy in a public place are long gone, we need to accept that as a society.

I can't see why this would be a problem; idiots policing idiots would be ideal. Fwiw, I think most motorists are competent enough, it is a tiny minority who cause trouble.

A simple webcam with a feed to a central computer which could alert the authorities is already feasible. The cost of these technologies is always coming down. Standardised fitting to all new cars and fitting during the NCT would not be that costly, i would think.

Imagine if there was a cam on every car and a cop to watch the cam, with automatic points and fines for every transgression.
As soon as max points are reached, engine cuts off and car coasts to a halt.
We'd all be poor and walking within a fortnight. :D

or employees work vehicle is no 1 on list for notification to security. your wife may have been followed without her knowledge so let bank security and gardai handle it ASAP
