Being Intolerant of Intolerance

    Are you really any better?

So Panti was back in the papers today, yet again.

Why is fair for Panti to be intolerant towards people who are socially unwell and think in cognitively distorted patterns and yet demand that everyone else be tolerant towards him and the group he is apart of/chooses?

Having intolerance for the intolerant will never make the situation any better.

People work. Lets try and understand the source of why people are intolerant and just have compassion and help them to be better.

Can you be a part of a group if you're apart of a group?

Because you shouldn't have to be "tolerant" of people attacking your very way of life.

    Maybe this?

    http://www.herald.ie/news/bearded-lady-win-a-major-victory-over-intolerance-panti-30264642.html

    Fairly uncontroversial comments from Panti.
“It sends a brilliant message. If I was a 14-year-old gay boy it would show me that I can be anything I want and Europe will say I’m fantastic and vote for me,” said Miss Panti.
“I see the win as a political statement that a bearded drag queen won the popular vote. Even Russia gave the song five points which shows Putin and the old guard who are anti-gay in Russia are out of step.
“Several countries seen as anti-gay’ also voted for the song. It was a great win at a time when in some countries he could still be imprisoned or even executed.”

Because some people believe the intolerant can change. I know plenty of people who were homophobic and very openly made it clear they didnt like gay people. But when they actually got to meet and know gay people. They realised they werent that different from themselves and actually became friends with them

Its hard for a young Irish people to understand why we live in a country where its still totally acceptable to use religion as an excuse to justify intolerance. Teachers still arent allowed to be openly gay and work in a catholic school. What does that say to a 14 year struggle with his sexuality? That you are a second class citizen in your own country for no good reason.

We find it shocking how Russia discriminates against gay people. When in Ireland we still discriminate against gay people. You can choose to be intolerant. But you cant choose to be gay.

Panti has already stated that hes intolerant. Racist and bigoted toward people with certain beliefs. Hes throwing stones in glasshouses to gain an audience and inflate his ego. Thats showbiz.

Oooh the intolerant bashtard....all that dastardly talk of positive role models and progressive attitudes, makes my blood boil.

He'll be on for allowing men who look like women to sport manly facial hair next.

    Where will it end Joe?

Serious thread, or poor attempt at irony?

It's a bit like asking someone who has just been punched in the face: "Should you really be hitting back to defend yourself? Are you really any better then?"

How is he racist? Does being intolerant of racism make me bigoted out of interest? Because that's what happens with your absurd logic.

Not in the slightest. You stated

"Racist and bigoted toward people with certain beliefs"

Do you have any source to back that claim up?

Are you referring to this quote:

' I would say that every single person in the world is racist to some extent because that’s how we order the world in our minds. We group people. You know it’s just how our minds work so that’s okay but you need to be aware of your tendency towards racism and work against it.'

I think you missed the point of the quote... Still not sure how Panti is racist towards homophobes, when did they become a race?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,652 ✭✭✭I am pie

Have you been asleep for the previous year?

I must have been asleep also, go on...enlighten us.

The crux of this is that being anti-gay should be tolerated, is that it? If so it's an extremely weak attempt at looking for a foothold for a discriminatory view which is on it's last legs amongst the majority of the E.U and US at least...hopefully.

Should we not be intolerant of racists, do we have to accept someone's right to discriminate based on race, sexuality, nationality or any other arbritary characteristic that a person may be born with?

Hopefully most people believe the opposite.

    Everyone?

The kind of world view held by certain types who seek reinforcement of their own prejudice.

    Everyone is not a racist.
