    Hi,

Im just wondering does anyone know about the LMM programme in Trinity and how difficult is it to get into?

I have a 2.1 average in a law degree which I expect to graduate with but its only from NUIM so i dunno will they think that is good enough.

Also how long does it normally take to hear back about whether you are successful or not once you submit your application.

A 2.1 from any uni should be fine. If you have not got your degree yet they will send you a conditional offer along the lines of a 2.1 must be achieved. Email the course director if you are wondering about dates you hear back. I think there are 120 places but not sure of numbers applying. Good luck.

There's no only about a 2.1 in law from Maynooth. That's an excellent degree from an excellent university. Don't ever sell yourself short. Trinity is also an excellent university, but it's up its own arse. You'll know what I mean if/when you arrive here. Best university in Ireland? You can't even find a computer that's working two days in a row.

Given that two thirds of students graduate with a 2.1 or better, it could hardly be said to be "excellent".

Okay. It's just average. Trinity is the best. And UCD is the worst. And all of the other cliche ridden nonsense that goes along with this overrated tourist attraction.

 Erm...it is "just average". That's what happens when a university gives the same degree-classification to 45% of a graduating class.

    Why the animosity to Trinity?

I'm not disputing the numbers. But why does that make it "average"? Trinity's Law School is known as a 2.1 factory. I'm looking at last year's SF grades now. Only about 20 people got something other than a 2.1. I guess in Maynooth the system is flawed, whereas in Trinity we're just better. Is that it?

I just think the place is overrated. There are so many bad lecturers. And don't get me started on the seminarists. Honestly, I just expected more from the place. Saying that I've received a good education there. I'm just not convinced it's the best in Ireland. The facilities in UCD are extraordinary.

It was you who introduced the concept of being average. But, it happens to be the case that the median scorer gets a 2.1. Hence, average.

You appear to have had high expectations of Trinity which were not met. I have no particularly loyalty to the college, but I think that has led you to be overly negative. There are bad lecturers in every place; bad "seminarists" too (although, the fact that the majority of them seems to be sub-standard is worrying).

Sutherland School makes a mockery of House 39.

Firstly, you will have no problem getting in.

If you are thinking of doing an LLM to 'boost' (relatively) average grades at undergraduate level or improve your employment prospects with corporate firms, I think you would be best served going abroad.

I was in your shoes, and contemplated the UCD LLM, but I ended up going to Cambridge and it was one of the best decisions I ever made, and I believe it really helped me land a job with a corporate firm.

You probably don't have the grades for top tier universities, I'm talking here about Oxford, Cambridge and the LSE in the UK, the American Ivy's and the likes of Sciences Po or St. Gallen in Continental. However, second tier European/US universities would be a far better addition to your CV and provide you with far better life experiences and adventure than a Trinity LLM.
