I gave the wrong PPSN to my employer..

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me with a small problem.

I changed job at the start of the year and noticed the PAYE tax on my payslips was getting pretty big (emergency tax?) so I eventually got onto the PAYE Anytime service and started looking around. I noticed my new employer was not listed on my Tax Credit Certificates and then double checked my past payslips and realised that I provided my new employer with a wrong PPSN.

Anyone know what I should do to fix this? I just contacted my employer about the issue but they're usually quite slow at dealing with these kind of things. The accumulated PAYE tax is a couple of hundred at this stage, will I get this back? Assuming I used someone else's PPSN, how would this mistake affect them?

Thanks in advance for any help

The easiest way is just to ring Revenue and sort it out with them. They should issue you with a certificate of tax credits that you can give to your employer (provided you have worked before). If you have overpaid tax, then you will get it back. Provided Revenue correct the mistake, there shouldn't be any repercussions for anyone else.
