'Eco-tanks' biocycle unit - best running practice?

    Hi all,
    looking for some advice please. Bought a house a few months ago, noticed a smell in the kitchen / downstairs loo over last few weeks. Had plumber out, all drains, U / S bends fine etc but he mentioned to get the biocycle unit checked.

    Lid of the tank had service number of local guy on it, rang him, had 'full service' Saturday morning, 2 discs with diaphragms replaced in the compressor. Unit hadn't been working for months according to him.

    The main box inside the utility has 2 lights, one for power and second for when the unit is running. Its has a clock, with timer options (slider pegs, very similar to heating controls etc and a switch - either 'on' or 'timer')

    Service man said the 'de-sludge' return switch can get jammed so said he disconnected it, and said that the unit HAS to run 24 hours a day. It is now permanently running since Saturday.

    After thinking about it, I'm concerned that the unit obviously doesn't need to run 24/7, otherwise why would there be a timer on the system?

    Does anyone have any experience of these units and best running / maintenance practice? I found <snip> and emailed but no answer yet. Compressor is a grey box in a suspended chamber above the unit (but under the ground) with words 'EL' on it.

    I am concerned about burning out other parts if constantly on and also potential running costs. I have ZERO experience of biocycle units so any advice is very welcome.

    (Service man had some dodgy advice regarding plumbing and this is what has made me question what he advised, stating factually that our biocycle HAS to run 24/7 - my father is a plumber, I questioned some of the things he told me should be changed, went red and then admitted it wasn't sure when I told him!)

    Huge thanks in advance...

    Hi.if you could post a picture I am pretty sure I could help. Some systems do have to run 24hrs and others don't. Depends really on the system. If it's an SIR type system the blowers run on an on off basis usually 30 mind on 30 mind off or there abouts.

    Sorry. That should read an SBR type system.

    banned for ignoring mod instruction
    <snip>
    These systems need to be maintained by the manufacturer or a trained individual, there are alot of different systems on the market and alot of different processes so any local guy that says he can service all treatment systems is more full of crap than the tanks!!!
    Hope this helps, let us know how it goes..

    You diamond :) Spoke with a lovely guy, he identified the model, and said its meant to run 24/7. Timer is for an air valve, but wont cause any problems running full time either. Motor is approx. 100w, running cost about the same as having a light bulb on full time.

    Thanks a million, appreciate it! :)
