Tax Credit Self Employed Tuition Fees..

    Hi All

Just looking for some clarification please...

I know there is tax Relief of 20% on tuition fees (for qualifying private colleges, courses etc).
However, I just want to check whether the full cost of annual tuition fees (e.g. €5,000 per annum) , could be put through as an expense for those who are self-employed?

Or does the 20% tax credit apply in this situation also?

    Thank you,

    Active gal

Expenses have to be wholly and exclusively for the trade.

It is unlikely tuition fees would meet this criteria unless it is required for staff such as trainee accountants and solicitors fees and not just personal development or a child's education

As a self-employed person you'd still be entitled to claim the tuition fees relief as a tax credit in the same way you would health expenses, completely separate from the business, in the tax credits section of your personal income tax return.

The same rules / rates would apply as to a PAYE taxpayer.
