VW Passat CC...Tyre choice/rating question

    Hi All,
    Another tyre thread question,however.
    Passat CC - 235/45/17 97Y XL
    Max Speed displayed(180mph=290kph)

I currently have Kumho Ecsta KU39. They are rated Y.
Is there an issue with going for a W rated tyre. Should the rating match the displayed max speed on the speedometer.?
    W Rating 168mph/270kph
    Y rating 186mph/300kph

The RSA site states it must display a speed rating, but does not go any further

On the tyre choice. The Kumho's have been grand so far.
Just wondering if anyone has tried the Hankook Ventus V12.??

I've tried Eiretyres but prices work out similar when fitting etc is added.
The EU labels on the Bridgestone's is terrible, F for fuel efficiency.
I read that Dunlop is 75% owned by Goodyear, so should be OK also.

Some prices 97 Y XL supplied and fitted.
    Hankook Ventus V12 €115 (€113 Eiretyres)
    Goodyear F1 ASMY 2 €147 (€134 EireTyres)
    Dunlop Sportmaxx €142 (€139 Eiretyres)

    Thanks,

You passat cc isn't capable of getting anywhere near the max speed as displayed on the speedo so no worries there.

... but you should always get tyres rated for a max speed well above what you ever intend going, it would be foolish to get anything less than a V,Z,W, or Y

Got a set of 4 Rainsport 3 tyres a couple of weeks ago. Nice pinch on the wallet (18s, not 17s), but very happy with them sofar. Bought new alloys which came with cheapo "wanli" tyres. I drove about 5 miles in total on them before swapping out for Rainsports. The noise of those wanli's was insane.

I got a set of 4 Hankook K115 205/50/17 from Discount Tyres in Blance for €125 a corner.

Very happy with them in the dry and wet. B rating for both grip and fuel efficency and quiet too.

Instead of ratings, I would check user reviews. They will give you an overall idea about certain models and sizes. Some tyres performs differently at different sizes.

If you are looking at Sportmaxx RTs, research wear rate with them. I am not happy with them on lexus is250(245/45/17) wear wise. 50% worn after 5k kms.

Edit: just noticed eagle f1 as another option. I have them in front of same car. Brilliant tyres, highly recommended.
