    Hi all
I'm looking to get a van as the current car is beginning to cough. I'm 24 and hoping to get commercially insured as my father has a farm and as I'm becoming more involved a van would be handy.
My question is, although the herd number is not in my name, can I avail of the tax relief as a named driver or as a worker on the farm?
If I'm a "farm labourer" would my parents be expected to show that they pay me?
    Thanks

I think you just need a letter from your father stating that you use the vehicle on the farm and he quotes his herd number

If you can prove it's for business use only and not take civilian passengers then I would have thought so, and then just go to the local guard to sign the declaration.

From memory. In order to get commercial tax for a van/jeep you need to show one of the following:
1 -Insurance policy in your name.
    2- Tax clearance cert
    3. - VAT registered or limited company.
In your case the van would have to be registered in your dad's name (keeper of the vehicle) as he has the herd number/tax clearance cert.

    Don't need vat registration.

    Don't remember needing insurance either.

Just need to be registered as a sole trader as a minimum.

The insurance policy has to be in the same name as the registered owner.
I recently went through hoops in Longford CC to get my jeep taxed. I also had to get it weighed at an approved weigh bridge.
Apparently some CC's are applying these new rules wile others are not.
Also these rules only apply to first time registrations.

oops - i hit the quote button instead of the edit button by mistake.

You don't need vat registration though.

You can use your PRSI number.
