What do you do for a living?

Might be considered a bit nosy, but you don't need to answer if it's top secret!

I've a lot of education behind me (7 years in fact, to MSc level), I'm not boasting but I'm a smart guy, but despite this I took a sales based job mostly unrelated to my studies when I finished studying. It was fine, I needed a way to get up and running in a new country, and the money is quite good when you're doing well. Needless to say, nearly 8 months in and it's turned from being ok, to me absolutely despising it. I'm not a sales person, I don't think I ever will be.

I used to think I was money motivated, but the environment here has made me realise that I'm not REALLY that money motivated, well not enough to endure that sort of environment anyway. I would much rather a good work-life balance and a modest wage!

So I ask you, the work and jobs regulars, what do you guys do for a living?

I'm not essentially tied to working in an industry focused on my academic background, just something that's not sales/commission based, enjoyable, interesting, with a degree of potential for professional growth.
