Failed Nct Due To Emissions

    Yes, that old chestnut!
Had a look around the forum but just wanted to see if people could give me an idea as to why my emissions might be high.

Car is a 02 1.8 Petrol Ford Mondeo.
Brought it for the Nct a few weeks back and it failed due to high emissions.
Brought it to a mechanic who thought the catalytic converter needed changing. Put in a universal cat and had the emissions checked. They were still high but were half of what they were before the cat was changed.
He told me to go back to him a few hours before the retest so he could put some dipetane in the fuel and give the sparks a clean.
Did all of that then I took the car for a hard drive. Put about 100km on the clock and was revving it a lot. Didn't have the car shut off for about 3 hours before the test and it was sitting for max 5 minutes outside waiting for the Nct.
Guy came back to me and said he put it through the machine twice but that it's still high. Only this time it's twice as high as it was during the first test!
Any ideas why that's the case?
Have pictures of the test results below, in order.

Sorry for the long paragraph but any help would be much appreciated.

Have the car 3 years, this is the second nct I've put it through and it passed the first one with no problems.

It's due a service in 800 miles. Anyone think it's worth doing now and seeing if that has any effect?

Mechanic just text me saying the piston rings are worn out and need to be replaced.
He offered to pay for nct retest but hasn't said how much it would cost.
Don't think he's done a leak down test but would worn out piston rings be the cause of such high emissions? And would it be worth doing?

Car only has 82k miles on it, fyi.

Change mechanic and check lambda sensors

Lambda sensor is dead, that's all. Do notbelieve in pistons etc... Also I had over 10% emmissions!!! bought some powder of a polish guy , he told me to put it in before the test to the end box pipe, went for nct and was 0.1 % hahaha but then I wanted to fix it anyway, and it was lambda, twice because I bought universal one from bosch, then got scrap yard original old lambda and car was fine... I would not invest in cat, more likely is lambda, start from the cheapest option not more expensive, also standard universal cats are ****....

Was it scanned for fault codes?

I'll get a second opinion on monday and see what happens.
The rings will cost 300 euro. How much am I looking at for Lambda sensors?
