I said to Meself I'd open a new thread for this.

I drive a 2006 523i automatic. I want to change the run flat tyres to standard tyres. My mileage is low, only 6000 miles a year, a lot of city driving. I'm not a fast driver.

    Can anyone recommend me a set of 225 / 50 / 17 STANDARD tyres ?

I've had a look around myself but there are so many bloody tyres out there.

Most important thing is budget. My budget is 90 Euro per tyre. ( some may laugh at this but there you go )

    this is worth a look

    Nexen N'Priz 4S 225/50 R17 98 V XL

and you can get it here
    http://www.oponeo.ie/details-tyre/nexen-n-priz-4s-225-50-r17-98-v-xl#57188817

and it gets good reviews here

    http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110&cart_id=26526727.110.17991&sowigan=GAN&Breite=225&Quer=50&Felge=17&Speed=V&kategorie=6&ranzahl=4&S_Z=R&tyre_for=&x_tyre_for=GAN&m_s=3&rsmFahrzeugart=PKW&Label=C-C-72-3&details=Ordern&typ=R-228715e.

and as you only do low mileage it should be a winner.

but look on autoexpress for reviews, the do dear and cheap and you could pick in between. 90 euro is quite a bit for a tyre especially the low mileage.

Thanks very much. I've no bother paying 60 euro per tyre either ; ))

I'm Just looking for a half decent tyre for under 90 Euro.

I'm afraid if you want anything decent in that size you will be paying over €100. Alternatively look at putting part worn premium tyres on it. Wouldn't be putting cheap tyres on a car especially a rwd car.

But I don't do that many miles and I'm not too concerned with cornering etc. and I don't drive very fast.

and putting part worn tyres on any type of car is a defenite no no.

i found an item for you about the ones I suggested, its 2012 but tyres are tyres.

    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/60115/nexen-nblue-hd

and as you say 6000 miles means you wont be tearing around the place.

Anyone else have any recommendations ?

If you are strict on your budget, I can recommend Starmaxx tyres below. Turkish brand trying to enter european market with competitive prices. Better and safer than Chinese brands but not up to par of Kumhos, Hankooks yet.

    http://www.oponeo.ie/details-tyre/starmaxx-novaro-225-50-r17-98-w#55076357

If you have some room, I would go for Kumhos below.

    http://www.oponeo.ie/details-tyre/kumho-kh17-225-50-r17-94-v#59696580

These gets good reviews but I havent used them.

Go and read user reviews here to decide:

Thanks very much Kerten. Them Kumhos look good actually and price not too bad I suppose.

I might just choose a happy medium and buy them Kumhos

I know with eiretyres you can get them sent to a gargae and there is a list of garwages on thier website and these seem to install also.

Does openeo do a thing like this ? ( cant seem to find anything on their website )

many years ago bought a set of pirelli tyres for a micra, went around a roundabout not fast and the back of the car lost traction not happy, went back and changed to yokohama.more grip better handling and 10mph faster around same roundabout and no problems.
sometimes dealers can recommend tyres compatible within reason.

mmmmm, so relatively cheap tyres perforned better than expensive tyres.

Is it ok to put "V" tyre speed index tyres on a BMW e60 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 446 ✭✭WacoKid

I did research on dropping run flats on an e60 in favour of standard. The optimum tyre was the Michellin Pilot Super Sport which I duely purchased. Not cheap but I've never had a 'moment' in 2 years of them being fitted.

I'd check out Blacklion tyres, there's another thread on here about them with recommendations from fitters and customers. I have them on my car, super in wet weather, B rated for wet grip, better than most premium tyres. And they're great value, I'd say you'd get them for under you're €90 budget.

check your drives door panel and it will tell you..
apparently you can...but the caveat is you're putting lower speed rated tyres on your car than normal so need to inform your insurance company.

Ha ha inform insurance company that new tyres are only rated for 240kph or 149mph

I doubt they would know what the difference is in speed rating.

Be different if you where in Germany where there is a possibility of driving a car to the max but you no chance here.

Plus I doubt OP car could exceed the V rated tyres limit even if he wanted to.

Ah infairness there far from ditch finders. Once you avoid the Chinese crap like wanlis and nankangs. I can understand your point about the budget 110 euro is still a lot of money and it's just the size unfortunately. I can get Goodyears, Bridgestone any of the premium brands fitted and balanced for 69 euro a corner just because it's a common size. But then I'm sure you 17 inch alloys are far nicer than my 15s :). I suppose on bigger stuff like e60s they need 17s while the 15 look fine on my golf.

Yeah, hopefully they will be ok :)

yeah like essentially 500 Euro to buy and install tyres, not to be sniffed at like, a queer aul whack of money.

    Yeah, the aul 17 inch and 225 / 50 / 17 seems to add a fair premium.

Unfortunately it is very seldom you will run a premium car like a 5 Series on a shoestring budget despite the cars themselves being relatively cheap to buy at that age.

See attached picture. I can't seem to find a bloody answer to my question.

Can anyone tell me for sure if a space saver tyre will fit in to the area in the attached picture ?

Or does this need to be removed to allow the space saver to fit ?
