Immobiliser light on dash - Test

    Hi

Im looking for quick advice. The last two years ive had a flashing immobiliser light on dash and it has passed the NCT 3 times since then with no mention. Ive also done the driving test a few weeks back and passed with no mention of it from instructor.

Now my girlfriend took her last driving lesson before the test on Tuesday and the instructor says theres no way in hell they will even allow her to sit her test!

Please bear in mind that i just did the test a few weeks ago and its passed the NCT several times with the light on.

Anyone here that can explain why they wouldnt allow the test to be done? As if theyre isnt enough to do before the test with this happening.

some testers will not permit a test if there is any warning light on the dash. she might be lucky or she could meet the tester who won't permit it. Tester isn't to know that the light has been flashing for 2 yrs without incident. can you not get it fixed/checked out / turned off?

    from RSA website:

    Did you know?
A high percentage of driving tests are not conducted
due to some of the following reasons:
A fault with the vehicle presented for the test,
    • Documentation not being in order,
    • The candidate not turning up,
    • The candidate being late,
    • The candidate turns up at the wrong time or
    centre,
    • Or not meeting one or more of the following
    requirements (below).
In such cases the person has to re-apply for the
test and pay the fee again. Don’t let this happen to
you!!! – read our checklist and ensure you comply
    with all requirements!

Its not a fault with the vehicle so that doesnt apply i assume.

Unless its an "everything is ok" light then its showing some form of fault.

The car has a fault, the tester would be justified in cancelling the test as a result of this. Will they? Who knows.

The tester can choose to ignore it as happened for you or they are within their rights to say faulty car, no test. Her driving instructor saying "No way in hell" is excessive. I have seen people get away with it and others getting a non-conducted test. It is a toss of a coin costing €85. Fix it.

The NCT is very limited test. A car could pass the NCT and brake down on the way home. I could use other words to describe it but Alanstrainor would give out about my language.

    Follow up to this.

Passed the test. Tester only joked about it afterwards and gave her advice on where to get it fixed. Nice chap apparently.

Theres no bulb as such its like a flat circuit board with led behind it. Would probably have to go for a black sticker over it or drill a hole. Whole cluster needs refurbishing to get rid of it.
