Hi, Just wondered if anyone on here has tried online dating? and if so what website would they recommend. I have tried POF with no luck, the majority of men are just after 'fun'

You can request access to a private online dating forum in that link. It's for discussing online dating, so you should get lots of advice there. :)

I would recommend that you use a site that has a fee rather than the free sites. All the wasters/ married/ bored etc tend to go on the free ones so its hard to figure out which ones are for real. I met my now husband on anotherfriend 4 years ago. It worked for me!!:P

You have to be a boards member for 3 months and have 50 posts to access the online dating forum.

I was online dating for a looonnngg time and tried all the sites. I never found fee paying sites any better than free ones to be honest. I used smooch, POF, another friend (fee) and probably some more that I can't remember. It isn't an instant fix - it involves a lot of work and kissing a few frogs. A lot of men (and women) are just looking for 'fun'. Im 45 and found that men my age had done the dating/married thing and were now just looking to recapture their youth and sow their wild oats!

But you have to look at it as a way of meeting new people rather than a boyfriend. Make sure your profile is up to date and your photos too and keep at it. I met my partner 2 years ago on Smooch :D

No hugely success story, but I've met a few guys from POF and OKcupid, who were lovely guys (some I'm even friends with now) only reason it didnt work out was because I wasnt into them romantically.

However, It takes time, and it's hard not to judge people based on their profiles, but generally decent/genuine guys looking for relationships will put effort into their profiles and messages they send you.

You have to admit that OKCupid is well above POF. Maybe not in terms of quantity but in terms of Quality. Any guy or girl who is serious about meeting someone will put in the effort to a profile and message. In OKcupid you get to see some sample questions and compare and contrast the results. POF I have my reservations about and leave it at that.

Someone isn't going to dish out €10-20 a month for fun, with fees they are probably looking for something a bit more meaningful.

Im 36 and met my current partner on POF, we both have friends who have done the same, one just got married the other together over a year.

I disagree that its people just looking for one thing, tbh its usually pretty easy to spot who is and who isnt, no point in chatting or going on dates with people just after one thing.

I didnt say it was impossible, I am suggesting that a particular site because there is less detail there is more ambigous characters...... Internet dating isn't mathematical or logic based .... there is just a lit more chaff than wheat on a certain site more so than others.

Thank you everyone for you're advice. I've actually never heard of 'Smooch' before, as i said i've only tried POF and the only messages i got were form guys looking for 'fun no strings' or from 50 year old men must be just my luck lol

I've tried both paid and unpaid and found a free one - okcupid to be the best by far. Like someone else said definitely quieter but more quality than others.

OK OP have to close this as this forum is for advice on specific relationship issues. The forum is not a general discussion forum. Per the second post here maybe try the ODF, again it is a restricted forum so use the link above to request access - there are many like minded people there and your question above would be right at home there.

Thanks and sorry we cannot help more.
