What do you do during TV ad breaks ?

Watching 24 the other night, I realised it was 42 minutes of program wrapped up in an hour long show, so with station IDs & ads, a massive 18 minutes of ads or 30% of the broadcast time.

During the breaks, I took a whizz, made a bio of tea & checked on the kids. As a result, I've no idea what the advertisers who no doubt spent a fortune on their 30 second slots were trying to sell me.

    Ads??

    You're doing it wrong.

I fast forward through them. Rarely watch tv 'live' apart from football.

Why are make a cuppa and channel hop part of the same vote? They're completely different. Poll fail.

I channel hop and then swear as I realise the adverts are timed in parallel across some of the channels, then I find something that attracts my attention and watch that for too long before flicking back to the channel I was originally watching and swear for having missed the re-start of that programme:mad:

Press pause, stare for 3 minutes, fast forward

Usually put the TV on mute and talk to whoever I'm sitting with. If I'm alone ill check fb, reddit, boards etc.

I fast forward through them if it's recorded.

The only live TV I watch nowadays are rugby matches and they only have ads before, during half time and after. I try my best to avoid them. If coverage for a 18:30 match starts at 18:15, I pause at 18:15 and start watching at 18:20 to skip the ad break. I can find something else to do during halftime.

Even the kids are glad the ads are gone !

I fast forward the sham that is scrums too. Reset after reset is worse than any advert.

I could watch the Soda Stream advert for hours though.

Never watch live tv, so if there are adverts, they get fast forwarded and I like to challenge my reflexes on 30x FF and see if I can hit play perfectly at the end of the adverts. I'm getting pretty good at it took. :D

Mostly stuff is downloaded though, so no adverts at all. I'm already getting reamed by sky for a tv subscription every month, I shouldn't have to get adverts forced down my throat on top of that and when I do, I I go out of my way NOT to watch them anyway, so it's pointless.

Even if I had just turned on the tv and my favorite show/movie was on live tv, just starting and I had nothing better to do, I'll pause it for 5-10 minutes and do something else to give me some FF breathing room to avoid the ads.

Yep Pause, at the start, go do something for 10 min and fastforward the adds

    Do you have a TV?

And this is for the most part
    Why I download, no
Ads. If I could do it legal, i
Would. Without the ads and pay for it. Glady, but ads ruin a show. This is why pirates are so common, give us pay to play without ads and watch
    The profits skyrocket!
Edit: bar Netflix, cos they have a very limited line. I think in future we need to cross the line. No more barriers to TV shows, because we can already access them, be it by illegal means.

Same here, i seldom watch TV these days and when I do I nearly always record and FF the ads.

OP you forgot the FF option in the poll, chances are that it would be the most clicked.

    No. There's not.

Hmmm... it appears I screwed up on the questions. Would anyone have any objections if I did it again (properly)? Find this fascinating.

I mostly download myself, for the little I do watch, but I've noticed a lot more product placement coming in & also a lot of stuff on youtube having product placement.

I wonder what the future of advertising is. I mean, adverts on tv are ignored, the cinema is an eating competition until the trailers start. Does anyone even buy newspapers or magazines anymore ?

    What's a bio of tea?

Normally channel hop, check on dinner, talk to housemate, have a smoke.

Download most of my favourite TV shows so no ads, and watch a fair bit of Netflix!

Product placement is the way to go, I recently saw a programme where they use CGI graphics to "place" products existing films & programmes.

It's what you drink with jambalaya, crawfish pie and fillet gumbo.

I have no idea where that came from. It's like the doubling of one of the options in the poll. I didn't put it in :/

Only watch BBC in real time, everything else (bar sport) is PVR'd I'll record a programme I'm watching, just come to it 10-15 minutes after its start time so I can skip the ads.

Pop the show into download site of my choice, download it, and continue watching where it left off - before the ads finish; then I turn off the TV (then kick it, and shoot it - repeatedly - in apoplectic rage at witnessing one of any number of annoying adverts).

I watch netflix, youtube with ad blocker or stream game of thrones. The closest things to ads I watch are game or film trailers but I look up those on youtube.
